I realize Rick Steve's does not go to Thailand but was wondering if anyone here has. I am going to be in Koh Samui for 2 nights. I am looking for a nice place on the beach to stay. Any recommendations for a place on a swimmable beach, with a nice pool, and around $100-200?

Sadly Koh Samui has been ruined by overdevelopment and pollution. The water is dirty and the beaches way too crowded. Chaweng Beach is no better than Patpong in Bangkok. Seriously think about going to another island instead. The south end of Koh Lanta still is lovely and Koh Ngai is spectacular and peaceful.
Emily , both Lee and Chanis posts are good information, I also second checking out tripadvisor.com travel forum, they can be very specific to the actual town or region.
