What do you do with postcards you bring home?
Well aware of my limitations as a scenic photographer, I often buy particularly nice postcards to bring home with me. I sometimes also buy more than that and despite my intentions, never get them sent to anyone. I've even mailed a few to myself from foreign parts, which seemed a little strange but was kind of fun when I picked up my mail after I got home.
So. The real reason for this posting: there's a kid in Colorado who's going blind. His mom had the brilliant idea of having people send him postcards so he can literally see the world while he can. He has some kind of special visual memory that will allow him to keep those pictures in his mind for years. The full story is here: http://www.9news.com/rss/story.aspx?storyid=305887 and the follow-up story with the mailing address is here: http://www.9news.com/news/local/article/307767/222/Huge-response-for-showing-blind-boy-the-world
Just mentioning this. In case anyone's been doing some New Year's housecleaning and may have some extra postcards from farway places - or even their own home town or state - that they don't know what to do with.
Happy travels, everybody!

Well, pooh. The link to the original story doesn't work. I tried editing it and found two things: (1) you can't edit original posts, and (2) something about the system here truncates that particular link because it ends with and "=" sign and some numbers, which it drops.
So you can go to the link for the followup story which will have its own link to the original story. Or you can just copy and paste this URL address to get straight to the original story:

And while I'm at it, I of course meant to write "faraway places" in that next to last paragraph.
. . . almost all of us have limitations as scenic photographers. When you're somewhere that "needs to be photographed," have a look at the picture postcards on the tourist store rack - first. They can give you hints as to the best vantage and time of day to do your own photo stuff. Happy travels ~ P
Thanks for posting this. I've found that if I enjoy my trip, I'm much more likely to put my postcards on the fridge or other places where I'll see them all the time. If I didn't have fun on the trip, the cards end up in boxes with other odds and ends.
I got the link to work, and here's the address for the postcards.

What a lovely thing to do for the lad.
