travel from florence to budapest
we will be traveling in N italy & were thinking about catching a river cruise from Budapest, Hungary to Passau, Germany. Airfares listed were obscene and I was wondering if any of you out there were savvy about trains between Florence (or venice) to Budapest???

The Alps also run northeast of Venice and the top of the Adriatic. They're a natural barrier for trains.
You could take a budget air carrier into Vienna and a 150 mile fast train down to Budapest.
