Lodging for 2 couples: Basque Country (FR/SP) and Normandy

We will be traveling with our adult daughter and her boyfriend in late June/early July. Looking for lodging that would accommodate the four of us - we want to consider apartments, small homes, or good hotels/B&Bs with suites. We will have a car.

Checked out VRBO, but unsure of the payment process and protection from fraud, and we will not be 7 days in any one location. Does anyone know of reputable rental companies in these areas?

Itinerary:
Beginning in Spanish Basque side (Bilbao, Lekeitio, San Sebastian) - 3 days

Moving on to French Basque side (coastal St Jean de Luz, Biarritz, and also small villages near Pyrenees St Etienne de Baigorri, St Jean Pied-de-Port, etc) - 3 days

Heading up to Normandy (Caen, Mt St Michel, etc) - 2.5 days

Thank you for advice you can provide!

My wife and I stayed in a delightful little B&B near the village of La Cambe, about 30 miles or so west of Bayeux, on the N13. The place is called Le Lieu Besnard. It has only two guest rooms, each with a private bath. It is, without a doubt, the nicest place that we have stayed in Europe. Current room rate is E85 per night, including a hearty breakfast.

What you are looking for is often listed as a "gîte" or a "location". Unfortunately, in season, these are usually offered for longer stays.

Try: http://www.gites-de-france.com/

I have traveled in France with another couple and we have found that separate bedrooms in a B&B works well for us for shorter stays and apartments/gîtes for longer stays. If you stop looking for "suites", you will find a much greater range of choices, IMO.
