Brittany Ferries: Caen to Portsmouth
We would like to take Brittany Ferry from Caen to Portsmouth in early July.
Pedestrian, no car.
Does anyone have experience with this ferry line?
Does anyone also have advice on the best way to get from Portsmouth when we get off the ferry to Gatwick (flights next day)?
Lastly, any recommendations on decent lodging in Gatwick for one night?
Thank you very much!

Which sailing do you plan to take: morning or afternoon?
What time does your flight leave?
Morning ferry to Portsmouth on a Saturday (leave 8:30 am, arrive about 1:30 pm).
Morning flight out of Gatwick the following Sunday am.
Thanks!
You can take a National Express coach (highway bus) directly from Portsmouth to Gatwick. Depart at 14:45 and arrive at 16:20.
Alternatively there are hourly direct trains from Portsmouth to Gatwick. For example, you can leave Portsmouth Harbour station at 1412 and arrive at 1537. Details and advance ticket booking (although I'd leave the ticket until you get to Portsmouth in case the ferry is delayed) at www.southernrailway.com.
We took them a couple of years ago. It all went well and our vessel was actually quite new and modern and it was a smooth sail.
Only done it with a car, it is fine. You might already have noticed this, but be aware the ferry leaves from Ouistreham which is down the road from Caen itself, there is a shuttle bus I think, but you clearly need to include that in your travel times.
