Best districts in Madrid

Can you recommend the best district in Madrid? We are 2 professional couples traveling to Spain in May. We found a 2bdrm apt in Chamberi and was wondering if that was a good choice? We want a place that is not too noisy at night and centrally located to restaurants and recommended sights to see. Thank you!

That's pretty far north of Gran Via, so as far as I know, it's not at all close to major tourist sights...could be a fine neighborhood, though...I really don't know. For proximity to sites, you need to be south of Gran Via...more toward Puerta del Sol to be close to recommended tourist sites. And I don't know about that particular neighborhood, but immediately north of Gran Via is sketch...not a good area...prostitutes, drugs, whatever. I liked the Plaza del Carmen neighborhood, just up from PdS. It can be noisy all night long right on the plaza, but you should be okay anywhere in that area or in the PdS area. Madrid is a big city...there are other great neighborhoods...just my two cents based on what I know and where I stayed.

I sent a PM to a really great website to assist you in your search for information on Madrid.

Hi Nancy, yes it was, I didn't want to break any rules about posting other websites. I take it you're familiar with it, it's a great site for Madrid and Spain in general!
