driving from heildelberg to rothenberg

We will be staying in Heidelberg for three or four nights and would like to see Rothenberg and maybe Wurzburg. In checking the train schedules, it looks like a couple of transfers and a few hours.

If we rent a car for a day, is the traffic in Heidelberg heavy - would it be an easy drive for us?

There are five of us travelling together. Hard to find a car to accommodate the five of us?

Thanks for your help.

Super easy drive, 95% autobahn. Should take you just under 2 hours.

The traffic immediately around Heidelberg is quite heavy, but once you hit A6 heading towards Heilbronn, it isn't bad. A longer, but much more scenic drive would be to head up the Neckar river valley, and link up with A6 around Bad Wimpfen.

But, here's my usual comment... driving from Heidelberg to Rothenburg odT, you are passing by any number of towns just as scenic, but aren't mobbed with tour buses. In addition to some of the gems of the Neckar valley (including Bad Wimpfen, Hirschhorn, Dilsberb, Neckarsteinach, Eberbach, Mosbach, Zwingenberg), you'll also drive right by Schwäbisch Hall, and Crailsheim. I'm not saying any one of these towns is necessarily better or worse than Rothenburg odT, but they definitely won't disappoint... unless you're looking to buy trinkets.
