Burgundy in February

Has anyone ever been in Burgundy in February? We are going to Paris and decided to spend a night in Beaune. I know the weather will be cold/rainy, but has anyone ever biked in these conditions? Any recommendations? We know that hours are limited and some wineries are closed, but would like to see/tour the towns South of Beaune. Ideally, on a bike. Any advice is appreciated!

Bring weather-appropriate gear, such as you would wear biking in New Jersey in February.

Email the bike shop to make sure they are open. (If not, I'll bet something can be arranged.)

Whether this is a good plan really depends on you. If you are prepared for the cold, and it doesn't rain or snow the day you are there, you should be able to do this.

In fact if the weather is bad, stay in Paris and wait for another day. You won't need reservations in February, so you can improvise your itinerary on the fly.

But do check to see if the hotels and restaurants that interest you are open before you go. Some take winter vacations, closing for several weeks.

We have already booked our train tickets and hotel in Beaune...I have reserached extensively on the internet and no such mention of biking in February. Thank you for your advice though!

Leslie,

Here's the contact information for bikes in Beaune.

Email and photo info at lower right.

This is the rental shop that Rick recommends (and whose itineraries he adapts). Florent is very friendly and helpful.

If he's usually closed in February you still might be able to make an arrangement, if not he can recommend another bike shop or rental outfit (which he did on my case).
