Train Travel From Berner Oberland to Venice, Italy

We are planning a trip and looking for advice to travel from Lauterbrunnen to Venice in one day. We will purchase a Swiss pass for travel out of Switzerland, but not sure where to go after that.

At the Lauterbrunnen train station, simply buy a ticket from Lauterbrunnen to Venice. Show the agent your Swiss pass and they will make the fare adjustments. A valid Swiss pass will get you to the border (or perhaps Domodossola). Suggested routing is Lauterbrunnen/Interlaken Ost/Spiez/Milan/Venice. Depending on the run, you may have train changes at Brig or Domodossola. Hopefully, you can get the EC train that goes direct to Milan from Spiez.

All roads lead to Milano. There are essentially 3 trains a day with only 3 changes that get you there in 7 hours: 7:03, 7:33, and 12:33. The Swiss pass gets you as far as Domodossolo, then a paid ticket (purchased before your initial departure)

Your best route is Lauterbrunnen-Interlaken Ost-Spiez-Brig-Venezia Santa Lucia, departing at 07:33 and arriving at 14:40. See the detailed timetables on the German Rail site.

Use your Swiss Pass as far as Brig. Then take a Eurocity train directly from Brig to Venezia. If you book Brig-Venezia Santa Lucia ASAP (up to 120 days allowed) on the Trenitalia site, you can get a Smart fare of €32.00.
