Helsinki Bus # 24

One of the ports on our cruise is Helsinki. We would like to see the open air folk park called Seurasaari but are a little put off by the $79.00 charge for Royal Caribbean's tour. Rick Steves book says take bus #24 from the esplanade and do your own tour. Has anyone ever done this? How much is it for bus fare? How long is the trip? How often does the bus leave? Is it totally overwhelmed by the cruise ship passengers and impossible to get seats? Any info would be appreciated.

It's easy to do on your own. I'm not sure the exact cost of the bus fare, because my hotel gave me a bus pass, but it can't be more than a few euros. If I remember correctly, by bus, the trip taks about 15 minutes from downtown. It's a regular city bus, so service is frequent.

I haven't done it, but Helsinki public transportation is pretty well described online. We used this site to plan other trips around the city. To plan your trip to the outdoor museum see: http://www.hsl.fi/EN/Pages/default.aspx
