Magic Moments from our Tours

Real experiences from our tour members

Here are just a few of the many magic moments you can experience on one of Rick Steves' city tours! For more information, check out our uncensored tour member feedback page for the inside scoop on all of our tours!

Europe

My favorite times on this trip was meeting Analeise Freise in Rothenburg and having her show me all her Rick Steve's pictures and letters. She feels special because he has written and kept in contact with her all these years. The other great memory was in Bacharach and Herr Jung's walking tour of the town. He is such a wonderful man and he takes us all along with him on his life's journeys through his personal experiences. Kurt's Tiki Disco Bar was a trip and a half. All the art and sculptures all over Europe were jaw droppers. I loved it all.

Village Europe

On 9\11 we were in Switzerland and Rolinka (the tour guide) had a moment of silence on the bus and then played Imagine by John Lennon... gulp... then that evening she set up a special service with a minister at a Catholic church. It was so empathetic of her. We needed that time of reflection in a neutral country.

Eastern Europe

The spontaneous wine-tasting in the countryside near Eger was a high point. Also, I loved Budapest. Hungary was the surprise jewel of the trip. A group of us hired a boat and went swimming off the isle of Raab, which was also quite special.

Athens and Heart of Greece

The first night of the tour when we ate on a rooftop with such a clear and beautiful view of the lit-up Acropolis. It was like "Wow — - we're really here and it's just as amazing as every picture we'd ever seen".

Britain

This will sound strange but when our laundry was done while we continued to sightsee. I felt that all our needs were anticipated and met. We had wanted to see a play at the Globe in London since we heard it was rebuilt. All the history we learned on the tour made the play much more meaningful and understandable.

Village Italy

All the moments of my trip were magical moments punctuated by "WOW" and "Holy Cow!" My journal is as filled with magic as Merlin's, but the one I want to share is significant because it brings me peace...From my journal, dated 7/18. sunset, just before dinner at Monte Solare, "...I want to remember the soft breezess caress, I want to remember the calm tranquility that the mountains impart, I want to remember this garden old and pleasant. I want to remember the bubbles (of the prosecco) tickling my lips." It was not a big moment, it was, however magical because whenever I read it - I remember.

Village France

I faced my fear of heights when I paraglided over Charmonix. I never felt so at peace then when I was up there with the wind against my face and the valley beneath my feet. Aside from this, there were many little moments that will remain with me. I remember the kind encouragement of a tour member who stayed behind with me when I almost couldn't complete the biking trip. There was the hiking in the Tarn that led to a path of mountain goats with bells running across the road. Then there was the floating in a hotel pool in my underwear after a long hot day of hiking to the calanques in Cassis. And on my last night, a butterfly landed on my nose when I was waiting to get into dinner in Flavigny.
