Best of Germany, Austria & Switzerland Tour Magic Moments

Real Experiences From Our Tour Members

Our goal as tour organizers: to pack your trip with "magic moments." Here are just a few of the many magic moments our gangs experienced on a Rick Steves' Best of Germany, Austria & Switzerland tour recently. My favorite "magic moment" was the Roman spa at Baden-Baden. Another is the beautiful town of Hallstadt. I awoke at two in the morning and saw the moon encircled by clouds. It was like a Van Gogh painting!

The greatest moment of the entire tour was the last morning in the Swiss Alps when Pat took us up the funicular to see if we could see the Alps (they had been covered in clouds our entire stay there) and we arrived to the sun shining on the mountains and just as we were leaving the clouds came rolling in. We saw them at last!!!! Also the town of Hallstatt was fantastic, the lake, the mountains, the market square, etc.

The beautiful music in the churches in St. Goar and Vienna. Such professional presentations. Seeing the Alps was a pleasant surprise. I did not expect to be so impressed being from Washington and seeing beautiful mountains every day but I was!

The Swiss Alps provided us with an entire "wow" experience. I also enjoyed the hike down from the "Great Hike"...three of us joined Karoline and experienced the view of an incredible avalanche across the canyon...spectacular. Karoline was a superior guide and friend and made the expedition an experience beyond words.

My favorite magic moment was getting TWO kisses (on the cheek) from Giovanni — our host at our hotel in Salzburg. Karoline had warned us he could appear gruff but he really was a softie if treated right. Guess I must have done good!

The time in Switzerland in the Lauderbrunnen valley and the mountains above were relaxing, exciting, and incredibly beautiful. I walked down from the Schilthorn to Grotschalp, which was 5,000 vertical feet of unbeatable mountain views. Quite by chance in Murten I walked into a church only to hear the rehearsal for a concert of Camille Saint-Saen's Symphony No. 3 for Organ — it was truly a "wow!" moment. I also enjoyed listening to Herr Jung's personal town history in his tour of Bacharach.

1. We both (John and Elizabeth) agree with Margaret that Herr Jung is indeed a national treasure. We so enjoyed meeting and learning from him.

2. 3:00 in the morning watching from our hotel window the barges maneuver the Rhine River.

3. The hiking opportunities throughout the trip were remarkable.

4. We especially liked the thought that went into the regional meals throughout the tour (especially the picnics.)
