| Larry met his favorite tour guide in Carcassonne, France! |
Patricia Dumas of Eugene, Oregon and Larry Kramer of Springfield, OR are big fans of Rick's tour program. Patricia is taking five back-to-back city tours this fall, and Larry will take his eighth tour with Europe Through the Back Door in November.
Why take a Rick Steves tour?
Patricia: They take care of me. I feel like I'm going to see a bunch that I wouldn't see on my own. Time-wise it's more economical. I didn't necessarily think I'd like the art and history, but the tourguides made it interesting.
Larry: In 2002, I took four tours. I wanted to do Paris and Rome, so I did those back-to-back. It was great. I had tour guide William Altman in Paris, and Brad McEwan in Rome. I thought, gosh - if these guys are this good, I need to book more tours. So I did!
How did you first hear of Rick Steves?
Larry: I first learned about Rick Steves because I've been a member of Oregon Public Broadcasting forever. I had never been to Europe before. I went to the Eugene Public Library and read all of his guidebooks. So I went to Europe on my own, and everything he liked I liked. I only stayed in the places he recommended. Then, a couple of years ago I started taking his tours.
Why are you taking 5 back-to-back city tours?
Patricia: I took the 3-week Best of Europe tour in 2002 and I liked it. Now I want to delve into more. And why not see a bunch now that I'm going all the way over there? Also, I like the idea of being in one hotel for a week at a time instead of changing cities every couple of days. I'm taking Rick Steves one-week city tours in the following cities: London, Rome, Florence, Venice, and Paris.
What cities are you most looking forward to visiting?
Patricia: Venice and Paris. They were my favorites before. And I left wanting to see more. I'm looking forward to traveling again because I learned all the travel lessons the first time. During my last trip, I lost my luggage, and I didn't have good shoes. I had blisters on my feet most of the tour. But this time I'll be prepared! I can't wait to start exploring.
