Magic Moments in London

St Pauls

Day-by-day itineraries can give you a general idea of what you'll get for your money, but they can't prepare you for the unexpected ways that London can sneak up on you...and perform a little magic. Here are a few "wow" moments from our London tour alums...

"There were so many great moments. Visiting The Cabinet War Rooms, Tower of London and Windsor Castle were all great, but being a Beatles nut I would have to say seeing their original lyrics written on birthday cards and envelopes at the British Library was pretty wow!"
— Damon in Edmonds, WA

"My ‘wow’ moment was definitely our tour guide. Gillian made everything come to life, more so than during my two previous trips to London where I had explored places on my own. She has such an exuberant personality and was so much fun to listen to and learn from."
— Amy in Ankeny, IA

"Mine was more of a ‘gasp!’ moment. After dinner at Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese when we walked out to Fleet Street, I happened to glance to my left and saw the spotlighted dome of St. Paul's. I stood transfixed by its beauty for several seconds and realized why this great church was such a symbol of British resistance in WWII."
— Sue in Eugene, OR

"It wasn't a specific moment. It was the realization of the ancient history of the place. Walking on cobblestone streets and touring cathedrals, buildings and structures that had been in existence — in one form or another — for centuries. As an American, I have no daily sense of the foundations of my heritage. It boggled my mind to watch Londoners go about their daily business as if they weren't living in an historical wonderland. I was constantly awed from my first glimpse. And exploring the area via the tube was amazing. Mind the gap!"
— Lynda in Boulder, CO

Tower of London

"Too many to mention! British Museum, Imperial War Museum, the pubs, the people, St. Paul's, boat ride to Greenwich, patience of our guide (she was a saint!), other tour members (a great group!), the people of London, the 60th anniversary celebration of the end of WWII (the WWII planes few right over our hotel!), the Florence Nightingale museum, watching a play at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, Windsor castle (so much gold everywhere), the Tower of London (I've always dreamed of seeing it and the crown jewels), riding the double-decker buses, Westminster cathedral. Every day was a new high. Impossible to pick just one...or even the top five."
— Charles in Bartlesville, OK
