Magic Moments in Rome

St Peter's SquareDay-by-day itineraries can give you a general idea of what you'll get for your money, but they can't prepare you for the unexpected ways that Rome can work its way into your heart...and perform a little magic. Here are a few "wow" moments from our Rome tour alums...

"Just one?? Climbing to the top of St. Peter's Basillica…standing in the Sistine Chapel…walking out of the subway only to see the Colleseum across the street…walking through the ruins at Ostia…and watching a light rain fall into the Pantheon through the open dome."
— Jamie in Celebration, FL

"On our first full day, getting off the metro and climbing the stairs to a sudden view of the Coliseum was a definite wow."
— Patricia in Newtown, PA

"There were many "wow" moments: the Coliseum, Forum, churches, St. Peter's, Ostia Antica…however the one that will stay with me is the last night when our group went out to dinner and then to the piazza of Santa Maria Maggiore to have a sip of bubbly wine (can't say champagne since it was Italian). As we overlooked the city, the lights twinkled, the laughter flowed, and the night…well, the night was magical."
— Nancy in Newark, DE

"The 'cooking demonstration' that was just for our group at the restaurant. Also, the unbelievable experience of standing in a complete building — the Pantheon — from 2000 years ago, touching the original doors and imagining all the people who have entered and worshiped there. Walking amongst things one knows about from reading history, seeing movies, and such — and then to be in an actual living, breathing and still-used ancient building — was really a "WOW" for me."
— Mary Lou in Seattle, WA

"The group meals were a wonderful sampling of various Italian cuisine. We primarily ate in family owned restaurants and we were truly treated as family members. I have a real appreciation for food as a social statement after eating in Rome!!! Stephanie made suggestions for restaurants on our free time and they were all as delightful as the tour dinners. The Sicilian cooking demo was the best dining experience of the trip!!!"
