Magic Moments in Paris, the Loire and Normandy

Day-by-day itineraries can give you a general idea of what you'll get for your money, but they can't prepare you for the unexpected ways that Paris, the Loire and Normandy can sneak up on you...and perform a little magic. Here are a few "wow" moments from 2006 "Heart of France" tour alums...
There were many great moments — but I was especially struck by our guide singing solo in the refectory of Mont St. Michel. She sang a beautiful Celtic hymn. The acoustics were amazing and I truly felt transported to the Middle Ages.

The Normandy beaches and local tour guide Elwood will always be one of the most memorable moments of this trip. His telling of the history and the men and women who lost their lives brought tears to your eyes. Eating our lunch sitting on Utah beach and then walking through the cemetery above Omaha beach were very moving experiences. That was an awesome day.

The last night's dinner which we had picnic-style on blankets on the lawn near the Eiffel tower was a wonderful and relaxing evening. When the Eiffel tower strobe lights went off at 10 p.m. — that really capped off a terrific evening.

Every day we thought that that must have been the best day, the best sights, the best hotel, the best tour guide. Then we would be completely surprised the next day by more great experiences! Our room on Mont Saint Michel had a balcony where the view was just breathtaking. It was an unbelievable treat to get to stay there.
