Radio Feature: Rick talks Turkey with his Tour Guides

Blue Mosque
An exotic mix of art, history and culture awaits travelers to Turkey.

Our "Travel with Rick Steves" public radio show has included plenty of talk about Turkey — from local experts you may travel with on one of our tours. Have a listen!

From Turkey to the Persian Gulf

Turkish tour guide Lale Aran joins Rick to help plan listeners' itineraries to Turkey's significant ancient sites, by land and by sea. Also in this show, travel writer David Stanley reports on what he found to interest travelers on a recent visit to the Persian Gulf region. (Original air date June 10, 2006)

Islam in Turkey, and Rome's Jewish Ghetto

After taking listeners' general travel calls and emails, Rick learns about Islam from tour guides Lale and Tan Aran, who live in Istanbul and have written our guidebook to that remarkable city. He then places a call to Rome to chat with a resident of that city's little-known Jewish Ghetto. We'll also hear from a listener who recently returned from a trip to Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula. (Original air date October 29, 2005)

Turkey, and the American Southeast

Rick chats with Turkish tour guides and authors Lale and Tan Aran, who are here to dispel some American misconceptions about their country. They'll also give us an overview of what you'll find in the cities and the countryside of Turkey. Then, a little closer to home, we'll get road trip suggestions from guidebook author Jamie Jensen, and callers will highlight some of the Southeast's travel attractions.
