Question of the Month: What are the Ages of People on a Rick Steves Tour?

Travel partners: On any Rick Steves tour, variety is the spice of traveling.

Because we travel in an active, carry-your-own-bags style, one might expect our tour members to be younger than most. That's true...to a point. The answer depends on which tour you take.

Any Tour: Regardless of the destination or time of year, all our tours attract a lively mix of people interested in experiencing the thrills of Europe at a brisk pace. You won't be spending your vacation with grumps and those who expect to be pampered, and our range of ages (8 to 85!) provides a wealth of experience, enthusiasm and energy!

Week-Long City Tours: These tours generally have the youngest adults and the most singles. Ages range from the 30s on up, with the mean in the 40s.

Summer Tours: Like all our tours, the majority of tour members are a mix of couples and single adults. But it's also common for summer tours (especially Best of Europe and Italy destinations) to include one or more families with a teenager or two.

Family Tours: Our "Family Europe in 14 Days" and "Family Paris & the Heart of France in 11 Days" tours are designed for families with teens who may also have a younger sibling (minimum age is 8). Our typical 2007 Family Europe tour had 4 pre-teens, 10 teenagers, 12 grownups and 2 young-at-heart guides.

Spring and Fall Tours: These tours (particularly those lasting 2 weeks or more) attract the fewest families and the most retirees, so the average age is often close to 60.
