See the sea on tour...
Mark enjoys a day at sea on our inaugural Village Turkey tour.

Every month we feature funny, offbeat or inspiring anecdotes (and in this month's case, helpful). If you have a true tale to tell, send it to stories@ricksteves.com. If you have a photo that illustrates it, please attach it. Don't forget to tell us which city and state you live in. We'd love to hear from you!

Love that Netbook!

I've just returned from your new Village Turkey tour, where Mary Ann Cameron (from your office staff) was assisting. Great trip!

Thanks, Rick, for your excellent recent article on Techie Tips for Travelers.

I have a suggested addition: the new 'netbook' computers present a great way to combine light packing with bringing a laptop. They come with Windows XP Home Ed., built-in wi-fi, webcam and speakers. They are much smaller and lighter (less than 3 lbs.) than a regular laptop, and have everything you need for email, Skype, surfing, etc.

The June 2009 issue of Consumer Reports rated laptops and netbooks, so just before the Village Turkey trip I bought an Acer Aspire One from Costco for $349 (I see they are now offered for $299).

Mary Ann can confirm that my netbook was a hit for our Village Turkey group. My room became a regular internet cafe for fellow travelers. Several resolved to purchase a netbook for their next trip!
