Raves about Spain & Portugal

Dining with the Alhambra
...dinner with the view of Alhambra Palace was spectacular.

Rick Steves' four Iberian tour itineraries are generously spiced with 'wow' moments, from Barcelona's playful Gaudí architecture to Lisbon's seafood delights. Here are just a few raves from tour members' 2009 post-tour surveys...

"The biggest WOW! moment was the first sight of Gaudí's Sagrada Familia cathedral. No matter how many photos you've seen of this church, you're not prepared for its overwhelming size and beauty."

— Anita in Lawrence, KS — Barcelona & Madrid in 8 Days

"We got to experience so much more than we would have if we had gone on our own. I loved all the cultural events: tango in Madrid; flamenco in Sevilla; wine tasting in Granada. But for me the dinner with the view of Alhambra Palace was spectacular."

Sharon in Seattle, WA — Spain & Portugal in 15 Days

"The Guggenheim in Bilbao was of course a big WOW. But I found San Sebastian enchanting and so beautiful. It was a treat to be able to sit on the sand of a lovely beach and then just walk home. I enjoyed walking around San Sebastian and taking the bus up to the castle and wandering down, catching gorgeous ocean and bay views at every turn."

Mary Jane in San Diego, CA — San Sebastián & Basque Countryside in 7 Days

"A wow moment for me was at the end of the trip, when we were road-weary but needed to rally to see Lisbon. Robert led us on an amazing morning walking tour, where we crawled all over that old town. It was a perfect example of what Rick Steves tours do so well — getting the group into the real neighborhoods on the local transportation to learn the history and culture of these great old cities."

Margaret in Seattle, WA — Spain & Portugal in 15 Days

"My favorite memory from the trip may be the walk on the Camino de Santiago, followed by lunch at the 16th century winery. Knowing I was walking in the footsteps of thousands of pilgrims over hundreds of years was a very powerful experience. Then to meet the family who had lived in the same place and made wine for 400 years was amazing — including the wonderful lunch made by the matriarch of the family — the kind of thing that your average tourist doesn't get to do, and one of my reasons why I am a repeat Rick Steves traveler."

Kristine in Lodi, CA — San Sebastián & Basque Countryside in 7 Days

Note: Our "Spain & Portugal in 15 Days" itinerary has been replaced by two new tours for 2010: Spain with Morocco in 16 Days and the Heart of Portugal in 12 Days. The "wow" moments mentioned above continue!
