Eloquent on Ireland
The Republic of Ireland's Houses of the Oireachtas recently created a series of eight short "public service" films about the country's national parliament. These films feature people from many walks of life — including one of our Ireland tour guides, Stephen McPhilemy.
Stephen comments: "I recently had one of the biggest honors of my decade-long Tour Guide career when the Irish House of Parliament asked me to speak in my capacity as a tour guide and an Irish citizen. The project's aim is to encourage positivity and optimism in our people. Of all the TV stuff I've done over the years — including my 15 minutes of TV fame on Rick Steves Europe — to be asked to take part in this short piece because I'm an Irish citizen was my proudest involvement. Like everyone else in this little film, I love my island dearly."
In this 2½ minute video, "The Tree", Stephen appears twice: at the 1 minute, 3 seconds mark; and again at 1 minute, 20 seconds.
As an aside, during the filming Stephen got to hang out with his favorite British travel-writing icon and Monty Python legend — Michael Palin!
