New Florence Traffic Cams

| All eyes are watching you when you drive in Florence's no-traffic zone. |
Florence is taking new measures to crack down on drivers entering the no-traffic zone in the city center (zona traffico limitado, or ZTL). As your car enters this poorly-signed zone, cameras record your license plate number, which is added to a "white list." You must then tell your hotel when you check in that you are driving a car, so they can report your license number to be removed from the "white list." Any cars not removed from the "white list" will be sent a ticket (or your car rental company will be sent the bill, which they will deduct from your credit card).
Only drivers staying at a Florence hotel within the ZTL may enter the zone; the law is enforced daily 7:30-19:30. If you're parking for the day at a Florence garage in the ZTL, the garage will remove your license plate number from the "white list"; however, technically all visiting drivers must be going to a hotel, so if you are stopped by the police, tell them that's where you're headed.
