Passport Prices Going Up July 13th!
Check the expiration date on your passport. If yours is due to expire within the next year — or if you need to order your very first passport for an upcoming trip — you'll save a lot by ordering before July 13th.
That's when the cost for a first-time passport for an adult (age 16 and older) will increase to $135, up from the current $100. A renewal for an adult passport will be $110, up from $75. A first-time passport or renewal for a minor (under age 16) will be $105, up from $85.
Renewals for most adults can be done by mail, but first-time applicants and those under 16 must apply in person at an acceptance facility (often a post office, library or government office).
Additional details can be found on the U.S. State Department's website and in Kristin Jackson's Seattle Times article.
