The Pyramid of King Zoser at Saqqara, from about 2600 B.C., is probably the first of Egypt's great pyramids. Unlike later pyramids, King Zoser's is solid, with the burial chamber underground. Its designer, Imhotep — who was deified by wowed Egyptians — is history's first known artist.
