Architectural Walking Tours in Rome

One of my favorite local tour guides in Europe is Tom Rankin, who founded a company in Rome called Scala Reale, which is now part of Context:Travel in Rome. Here's what Tom had to say about his original company name:

The Italian term "Scala Reale" has many possible translations, from the poker term "royal flush" to the the literal translation "real stairway." In this case, it's intended in the architectural sense of "full-scale," pointing to the fact that sights are experienced directly and not just observed or discussed.

Groups are small, to facilitate discussion and allow interaction with the local culture; itineraries may include stops to sample local specialties, observe artisans at work or shop for unique Italian products.
