Rick Steves' Andalucía is designed to kick-off the all new sixth season of Rick Steves' Europe. A viewer guide article on the sixth season is also available.
Like an 800-pound bull bursts into an arena, causing its audience to gasp, Rick Steves' new one-hour special, Andalucía: the Best of Southern Spain will prance in front of its viewers — showing off the quintessence of Spain while expertly stoking their travel dreams.
Here, in Europe's most passionate corner, Steves dishes up the classic Andalusian experiences in the classic Andalusian places: sparkling sherry poured with an intoxicating love of life; Moorish palaces persistently dazzling through their Reconquista veneer; fiery Gypsy musicians taunting those in need of a little more soul; a never-to-forget paella feast on a sunny, seductively laid-back beach; a mighty rock drilled through with history and overrun with mischievous monkeys...and British imperialism; gourmet meals glistening with olive oil and time-honored traditions; somber religious processions followed by flamboyant flamenco revelry; weeping Virgins carried high above the festival throngs; fans and mantillas that tell a story; and the ultimate spring fair, with fancy horses pulling pretty ladies who somehow make polka-dots look elegant. Hold on to your castanets — you're in for an Andalusian extravaganza.
Engaging and rich in art and history, while celebrating today's culture, this fast-moving hour — filmed in sparkling high-definition — involves you in the action: slicing the jamón, cheering the dancers, celebrating the rituals, engulfed in paella steam, and soaking up the sun. Andalucía is vibrant sangria of civilizations. It's a lifestyle, it's proud...and it just may be the south coast of your travel dreams. Don't miss Rick Steves' Andalucía: the Best of Southern Spain. [Sunday, October 3, Xpm, on KXXX]
As has been his production tempo since 1990, every two years Rick Steves produces a new series of travel shows featuring his favorite European destinations. This October, Steves and his crew, with the support of Oregon Public Broadcasting and American Public Television, will release a new season of Rick Steves' Europe. The eleven half-hour episodes range from Estonia to Bosnia-Herzegovina to Morocco.
To kick off this exciting new season of travel thrills, a one-hour special, Rick Steves' Andalucía: the Best of Southern Spain thunders into the arena like a proud 800-pound bull. It weaves together the region's rich mix of culture, cuisine, history, and natural wonders. The hour includes the major cites of Sevilla, Córdoba, and Granada; flamenco, sherry, and horses; dramatic white-washed hill towns; and fun in the Costa del Sol sun.
The eleven half-hour episodes in this new season of Rick Steves' Europe include four on Spain, three on the former Yugoslavia, and four covering Nordic Europe. In Spain, episodes include Córdoba & Granada, Andalucía with Gibraltar and Tangier, Basque Country, and Galicia (northwest Spain, the Camino de Santiago, and the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona). Covering the best of the former Yugoslavia, Steves dedicates episodes to Slovenia and Croatia, and then ventures from Dubrovnik into Bosnia-Herzegovina and Montenegro. Then, heading into Europe's far north, programs feature stately Stockholm, striking Oslo, the lavish beauty of Norway's fjord country, and an episode on Helsinki and Tallinn in Estonia.
Don't miss your flight! Rick Steves' Andalucía: The Best of Southern Spain airs Sunday, October 3, at Xpm. The new series airs weekly starting October 5, Mondays at 8pm on WTORO.
