Rick Steves' Insider's Europe [Word Count: 141]

In a new two-hour travel special on KXXX, public television's travel guru Rick Steves shares a sneak peak at his upcoming series, pre-releasing a never-before-seen episode on Burgundy. In the land of France's finest vineyards, we'll glide with Rick idyllically on a luxurious canal barge, drop in on a thriving monastic happening, explore a mom-and-pop chateau, and slurp scrumptious escargot fresh from the market.

Then, to celebrate having produced a hundred episodes since 1990, Rick takes us behind the camera during his Milano shoot to reveal how he and his crew make the show. The finale: that same Milano episode--from Leonardo and La Scala to romantic Lago di Como--all polished up and ready for prime time.

Experience all this and more on Rick Steves' latest European adventure. Enjoy Rick Steves' Insider's Europe, on KXXX, Xday, March x at xx:00.

Rick Steves' Insider's Europe [Word Count: 346]

For 30 years Rick Steves has been on a mission: to make European travel affordable for Americans. Affordability starts with designing a smart trip. With Americans having the shortest vacations in the rich world as well as a dollar that's in the tank, there is the practical challenge of cutting through the superlatives to construct exactly the best itinerary and then finding ways to enjoy it within a budget. Then comes the fun: maximizing the meaning and experience.

When Rick is asked his occupation when crossing a border, he says simply “Teacher.”  Whether writing a guidebook, leading a tour, or making a new episode for his public television series, he teaches people how to maximize their travel experience.

Through the land of France's finest vineyards, Rick rides on a canal barge run by a husband-and-wife team. They're also the captain and cook…and experts at mixing the scenic and edible wonders of the region.  He pals around with a modern-day monk at the thriving monastic community of Taize. And he joins a woman who can identify the specific vineyard of a Burgundian wine by its taste. When Rick drops in on a family-owned chateau, he finds the mom and pop thrilled to honor their American guests by pulling out the 48-star American flag they flew above their castle on D-Day in 1944 as American-led troops began the liberation of France. Experiences like these are the essential ingredients for travel at its best.
