Big changes are coming to Europe's most popular rail pass. If you buy a Eurail Select Pass through the end of March 2014, it will cover (same as last year) travel in your choice of three, four, or five neighboring countries — but not France. However, if you place your order on or after April 1, the Eurail Select Pass will cover travel in just four neighboring countries (no more three- or five-country options) — and you WILL be able to select France.
So, should you buy now, or wait until April? If your plans include France (and you're not leaving home before mid-April), buy in April. If your plans don't include France and you're sure you'll want either a three-country or a five-country pass, buy now (you have until 5 p.m. Eastern time on March 31).
As always, before you decide, visit this site's rail pages to see all your options. (For example, for two or more traveling together, a Select Saverpass can be a better value than an individual Select Pass.) Once you've found the right rail pass — or mix of individual train tickets — for your trip, you can conveniently make your purchase through ricksteves.com.
Regardless of which kind of pass you choo-choose, you'll need to begin using it within six months of the date of purchase.
Have fun discovering Europe by rail!
