Eurail Pass Special Raises $28,000 for Bread for the World

Bread for the World

Because of our success selling Eurail passes last year, Rick Steves' Europe Through the Back Door was awarded 35 Eurail Global Flexipasses (each valued over $1000) to use as we wished in 2009. As he's done each spring for the past five years, Rick gave these passes free to the first 35 travelers who sent us an $800 donation for Bread for the World. All passes have now been allocated and we thank the travelers who participated. Together, we raised $28,000 to help Bread for the World advocate for the homeless and hungry. We look forward to offering a similar fundraiser next year. Thanks to all the travelers who contributed (and enjoy your Eurail trips!).

If you missed this opportunity, please consider making your own donation directly to Bread for the World. Every year BFTW organizes a grassroots campaign with a special focus. For 2009, rather than encourage our government to increase the aid it already gives the poor world, they are urging Congress to redefine who gets it and how it’s used. By taking the political and military strings attached out of the equation and giving it in ways that are entirely compassionate and pragmatic, the existing “foreign aid” budget will be more effective in doing what it is intended to do: to help the most desperately poor develop and be able to feed themselves.

Bread for the World is a non-denominational Christian citizens' movement that urges our nation’s decision makers to be more concerned about the needs of hungry and homeless people in the USA and around the world. They excel at working with Congress to pass legislation addressing these issues. Historically, each and every dollar given to Bread for the World generates more than $100 in aid to hungry people. Learn more at www.bread.org.  When our government tries, it can do great things for poor people—especially with encouragement from its citizens. Thanks again for your contributions.
