Itinerary

Daily Activity Key
  • Light = 2-4 miles of mostly level walking throughout the day.
  • Moderate = 2-6 miles walking throughout the day with some hills and stairs.
  • Strenuous = 2-8 miles walking throughout the day with lots of hills, stairs and uneven terrain.

Day 1: Welcome to Paris

We'll gather at our hotel in Paris at 3 p.m. for a short meeting and orientation stroll around our neighborhood, followed by a panoramic tour of the City of Light aboard a private bus. Then we'll get acquainted with one another over a delicious "Welcome to Paris" dinner together. Bus: 2 hrs. Walking: light.

Day 2: The Historic Heart of Paris

Let's begin where Paris did, on the Ile de la Cité. Your guide will lead a walking tour of the city's early history, including visits to a pair of the world's most significant medieval Gothic churches: the legendary Notre-Dame Cathedral and the exquisite Sainte-Chapelle. Then we'll take a stroll through the bohemian Latin Quarter, with free time for lunch on your own. We'll end our afternoon at the Cluny National Museum of the Middle Ages, where after an introduction, you’ll be free to visit the sublime Lady and the Unicorn tapestry and have a rare, up-close look at the artistry of original stained-glass windows from Sainte-Chapelle. Walking: moderate.

Day 3: Montmartre

This morning we'll hop on the Métro, then hike up Montmartre to tour the colorful neighborhood which was the haunt of artistic geniuses a century ago — including Van Gogh, Picasso, and Renoir — and generations of hopeful artists since. We'll end our walk with spectacular views of Paris from the Sacré-Coeur Basilica. You'll be free for lunch and have time to explore more of the city on your own this afternoon. We'll regroup this evening to enjoy a wine tasting and dinner together before embarking on a dreamy Seine River cruise. Boat: 1 hr. Walking: strenuous.

Day 4: The Marais District and the Louvre

We'll begin our day with a walking tour through Paris' diverse, history-layered Marais district. As we walk we'll learn about enlightened 17th-century urban planning at the beautiful Place des Vosges, the cultural roots of the Jewish Quarter and how the French Revolution grew from this neighborhood. Our walk will end at the Carnavalet Museum, a cavalcade of Parisian history, which you can visit on your own. This evening, Europe's greatest museum — the Louvre — is open late, and we'll take full advantage of that. You'll come face-to-face with the works of Rafael, Delacroix and Leonardo, and timeless treasures that include Mona Lisa, Winged Victory, Venus de Milo and hundreds more. Walking: strenuous.

Day 5: All Day at Château de Versailles

Today we'll explore the elaborate palace that Louis XIV, XV, and XVI called home. We'll make the 30-minute train trip to Versailles, where we'll have a guided tour of the dazzling Hall of Mirrors and other sumptuous rooms of the palace. You'll then have free time to wander through the expansive gardens and visit the farm animals at Marie Antoinette's hamlet — or zip back to Paris early via one of the frequent trains. Train: 1 hr. Walking: strenuous.

Day 6: Masterpieces of Paris

This morning we'll tour the Orangerie Museum featuring Monet's magnificent water lilies and home to a fine collection of other works by Renoir, Matisse, Picasso and more. You'll be well oriented and have time this afternoon to see the world's greatest collection of Impressionist art — almost next door — at the Orsay Museum, with art from Monet and Degas to Cézanne and Gauguin and beyond. Or visit other nearby places covered by your included 6-Day Paris Museum Pass, such as the Rodin Museum, or the military museum of Les Invalides. Tonight we'll enjoy a farewell feast together, sharing travel memories and toasting new friends. Salut! Walking: moderate.

Day 7: Tour Over After Breakfast

Breakfast is provided, but there are no group activities today.  It's a breeze to reach Paris' airports by taxi, shuttle or public transportation. Your guide will help you with any post-tour planning, leaving you well prepared for the road ahead. Merci et au revoir!

Itinerary specifics subject to change.

This was a wonderful experience to tour Paris without spending time on the administrative functions. Our transportation was determined ahead of time, our hotel was wonderful and convenient, our group meals were spectacular, our museum tours were well planned and the museum guides were great. We were easily whisked into the museums without standing in lines. We were free to spend our time on taking the tours, savoring the meals, resting!

What can you say about Paris that hasn't been said? It was my first visit there, my husband had been before. I was afraid of being overwhelmed by it all, but our guide Toni and the pace and planning of the tour made it easily and delightfully do-able. This was our third Rick Steve's tour and we would do it all again. Only negative is I wish we would have stayed a few more days to see more and do more after we had been orientated. Glad we arrived a day early and would recommend that to others.

I think that these tours are the way to go! Toni our guide was so knowledgeable and truly a pleasure to be around and so professional. The accommodations were wonderful and the restaurant recommendations were spot on! There was enough time to go out exploring on your own and yet enough structure too.

PARIS was our first trip to Europe. We took the time to prepare and practice pack to fit everything into carry-on luggage. What a sense of success to enjoy PARIS with style. We had 25 great and interesting individuals in our PARIS tour group, plus our awesome Tour Guide. We really enjoyed the five 12 to 19 years olds and the three 20 something college students.

"There are so many "pinch me" moments in Paris with the Eiffel Tower and Pont Alexandre III Bridge. We walked 48 miles in PARIS. Mentioning a few more of our favorites: Latin Quarter, Montmartre, Marais, Galeries Lafayette, Jardin Du Luxembourg, Arc de Triomphe, Ile St. Louis, Notre-Dame and art museums !! As we drove off in the airport shuttle to fly home, I FELT LIKE I LEFT MY HEART IN PARIS. We are looking forward to our next visit to PARIS !!!"

We visited all major sites in Paris in addition to Versailles. RickSteves tours provided us with 6 days passes for unlimited use of metro, bus and museum pass. This is an excellent way to explore the City of Light on our own when we get free time. Only thing I was surprised is all major sites in Paris are crowded with tourists, like all world's tourists are congregated in Paris in August! There is no time to linger, to appreciate since the crowd would push in for your place!

Overall the tour was great. Toni was an excellent guide, the hotel location and choice was wonderful. We enjoyed the majority of the selected tours. The only tour that was a disappointment was Versailles. It was far too crowded. This may have been because we went on a holiday. I wish that the tour guide could have made an adjustment or that I would have thought to skip the tour of the main rooms and just visit the outer buildings and gardens instead. Our tour guide did her best.

The hotel was well placed in a desirable location, near restaurants, and convenient to transportation. Easy to walk to the Eiffel Tower and rue Cler. All guides were helpful and knowledgeable. The tour's [INVALID]ion of must-see sites to visit while in Paris was appropriate. It seemed strange that the Eiffel Tower was not included in the package but then again people in the group would be split between a day and a night ascent, so which does the tour choose?

I am very glad I went on this tour and heartily recommend it to everyone! First, the hotel with Arnauld and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Then, William was a superb tour guide who gave us the information we needed to know within and outside the tour. Of course, Paris itself is fantastic. The 23 members of our tour were intelligent, friendly and fun to be with. In all ways, this was a trip of a lifetime! Thank you. Gary

It was a fantastic experience! It was just the right mix of time with the group and time on our own. I was in Paris in 1953 as a student from Norway and have always wanted to go back. I explored a lot on my own using the Metro and local buses and walked a lot. It was fun practicing the little French I remembered from my school days in Norway. We had a fun group of all ages, we got along great and had a lot of fun together.

Most of the tour was excellent. I was with two teenagers. We arrived early and sadly two of us ate something bad so we suffered a bit, but that's not your fault. William was an excellent guide and supportive assistant throughout. Our guides for the Louvre and Versailles were excellent, too. The boat ride on the Seine was terrible, though. Crowded, uncomfortable, and uninformative. Ditch it. Add Viator tour of Eiffel Tower (early) and the Catacombs (we did with Aeon Tours).

Favorite "WOW" moment

"I have to be honest. My two favorite wow moments were NOT with the tour. We signed up for the "Skip the line" Eiffel Tower tour with Viator (Alison was the guide). It was excellent and it made for a very good introduction to Paris since one can see the lay of the land and learn a bit of Paris geography from the top. The other "best moment" was the Catacombs tour we signed up for with Aeon tours. Calloway (the guide) was informative, reverent, and hilarious. The teenagers loved him."

This was my family's fourth trip to Europe and first RS guided tour. I have read the RS books for each prior tour and made extensive use of info in the books, which I found incredibly helpful and fun. Doing a guided tour was a leap of faith for me in turning over the planning and details to our guide. The experience overrall was terrfic, and I would suggest heartily that people who do not read the guide books should go on guided tours.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"Our guide at Versailles noted during the tour that we were in the room where Benjamin Franklin asked the King of France for assistance for the US in the weeks leading up to the American revolution. That generous financial assistance to the US probably accelerated the French financial crisis that precipitated the French revolution. Our guide also pointed out the balcony on which Mary Antionette appeared the night the palace was over-run by the French revolutionaries."

This was my 3rd RS tour and I had great expectations given my previous experiences. However this experience was rather flat. I realized that the itinerary left more of the iconic sights out. So the value on this tour relative to the other tours I've been on was simply not there. But still it was Paris, and the city was terrific.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"My "wow" moment was seeing the Eiffel Tower which I did on my own. There were no "wow" moments on the tour itself. I had high expectations for the Louvre but by the time I saw Mona Lisa and the Venus - I was so tired it was a little hard to appreciate though I did. You may want to look at rescheduling on the itinerary - leaving the Louvre until last on a busy day may not be best."

exceeded expectations. Loved Marie. You weren't kidding about the tour being rigorous! this is a continuation of the "wow" moment from question #3: Another moment was when I got a very up close look at Van Gogh's self-portrait and could see the actual brush strokes. He had painted blue under one eye - my first thought was "that doesn't work!". Then I backed up - to quote the British: it was positively brilliant! I came away with a much deeper appreciation of art.

I loved the time together and the time to do what we wanted - with great suggestions for our unguided time. I felt like we got to experience more than I would have on my own due to the expertise of Elisabeth and her great passion for Paris. Rolinka set the tone of our tour by having us introduce ourselves and then pairing us with a buddy (not someone we already knew). She introduced us to Paris and gave us the confidence to navigate the city on our own. Each day we had a tour experience, either with Rolinka or a site specific guide, and then were encouraged to explore on our own. Having the metro pass and the museum pass allowed us to tailor our free time to our own tastes. I would travel with you again in a heartbeat!

"Hard to choose a favorite out of the whole, but, would have to say coming onto Marie Antoinette's Hameau at Versailles. After the opulence of the palace to see this quiet oasis of tranquility was a surprise. Of course the beauty of the garden and the fabulous weather conditions just made this a truly special memory."

From beginning to end, our first Rick Steves tour lived up to its rave reviews for Paris. We arrived a day early, as advised. The group orientation and bus tour of the city gave us a glimpse of great things to come. The schedule had the right amount of group time for us. The guides at specific sites added depth to what we saw. Rolinka was a delight AND a good resource and Metro teacher. She was kind to invite us to dinner at her house in Montmartre.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"Attending chamber orchestra performance of Vivaldi's Four Seasons at Ste. Chapelle. Rolinka arranged for us to get tickets the day of the concert and we sat in the 2nd row. The beauty of the stained glass, the glorious sound created a memory I will always treasure."

I didn't know what to expect since this was my very first tour. My sisters and I spent another week on our own and I don't think we would have been so confident in getting around Paris if it were not for the guidance we were provided by Rolinka. She gave us tips on interacting with the Parisians, navigating the Metro, avoiding getting picked pocketed, how to eat escargot, etc. resulting in a trip of a lifetime. She was always there to help and gave us the tools to go it on our own.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"So many to choose from, but I have to say I never laughed so much as the video my sisters and I helped Rolinka create on how to tie a scarf like a Parisian. I knew I would have a good time, but I didn't think I would fall in love with Paris as much as I did if it were not for the Rick Steve Tours. I love the philosophy of getting immersed into the city and locals without all the pretense."

Busy from early morning until late at night. Rolinka did an excellent job of getting us to where we needed to be at the correct time. Paris was wonderful. The food, wine, bakeries, cheese all great. Love the big city buzz you get when being completely involved in the city. Went from being a complete Paris novice to metroing across the city to our destinations in just a couple days. More walking than I anticipated, but by day two I was used to it and doing fine.

The tour from the very beginning was very organized, informative, and friendly. Having it so organized made me feel relaxed and expectant. I gained insight into the history, art history, and culture. I learned new things. The intent of making visitors independent was accomplished and appreciated. By the end of our time in Paris (we stayed extra days) we were quite good at getting around on the Metro, transferring several times even. We felt confident!

"The guided tour of the Orangerie was fabulous. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable. Not only do I appreciate Monet more, but also Cezanne, Renoir, and Utrillo. It was a treat for the eyes and ears. I also loved the Orsay. Elisabeth gave us perfect instructions about our visit and we were able to enjoy the 5th floor nearly by ourselves. It was her helpful hints throughout the week that added to the pleasure of our trip."

"This is extremely hard to say. My wife and I loved our Paris in 7 Days trip. This was our first (But not last) trip to Paris and it was everything we imagined it would be. What made this trip special and more memorable for us was the organization, efficiency and the "user friendly" nature of the tour. Our tour guide was fantastic and our group was the best. Where to start... this was our first Rick Steves tour and for sure will not be our last. We have done lots of world travel so we were concerned the tour would be over-managed (like cruises) or with a bunch of stereotypical American tourist. I don't have enough superlatives to tell you how wonderful our experience was. Granted, we were on our honeymoon and a little starry eyed and we had a friend recommend Rick Steve's tours, so we expected a lot. This tour surpassed all that we expected. Professionally led, enhanced by on-site experts, touring out of a gem of a hotel, this was the absolute best way to see Paris for the first time. We enjoyed the company of like minded Rick Steves' fans and were pleased with how well we blended together with the tour guide. There was a good mix of tour time and me time so we were able to see most of what appealed to us. The only downside was there simply is too much to see in six days. Looking forward to the tour, I had concerns regarding whether my teenage daughter would have a good time with an older group, and whether or not the tour would move fast enough for me. This trip to Paris was a 16th birthday gift for our granddaughter, Ashley. Visiting Paris had been her dream and now my husband and I are wondering what took us so long! We have traveled extensively, but never to Paris. Had we not had a young girl with us, we probably would have merely passed through Paris, given it a couple of days, and then visited many other areas of France. We spent 9 days getting to know Paris. It was perfect.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"That is an impossible answer. Paris is the "quietest" large city I have ever experienced. There are very few honking horns and the buses, cars and motorcycles seem muffled somehow. Every evening, a crowd gathers at the Eiffel Tower and there seems to be a peaceful, low hum of conversation. It was wonderful! Loved the location of the hotel and the helpful, friendly staff. Our tour guide Elisabeth was exceptional. Her knowledge of the history of Paris, French royalty, the wines of France and the French culture are nonpareil. Her stories were educational and entertaining. She is so charming! Mary Ann was a bonus; the name game comes to mind. I am recommending the tour to family and friends. I feel confident I can navigate Paris on my own now. Can't wait to go back!

It was a great introduction to Paris, and I left feeling there was so much I would like to do next time. My tour companions were fun & our guide was very informative about Paris. Eating was amazing, expensive & seemed to eat up a lot of time. (Ha, ha!) I needed more clothes as doing laundry took up more valuable time. I would advise staying a few more days in Paris to catch the things you missed & to do shopping as the tour is packed with activities which left me very tired by 7 pm each day.

Interest in Paris Tour began with reading of Edward Rutherford's historical novel "Paris" some time ago and the tour in general did not disappoint. Itinerary did a good job of covering the various districts of interest. The day for Versailles was obviously a disappointment due to the strike but Arlene and I salavged it by leaving immediately upon arrival and returning to Paris for the train to Giverny which turned out to be memorable.

I was traveling with my daughter, and we had a great time, downpours, strikes and all. The skies above Paris (between rainstorms) were exceptionally clear and quite beautiful. I've been to Paris before, but our guide, Elizabeth, took us to a few places I've never been, and I plan to return to examine some of them more closely. It was a great group, and we had a lot of fun.

The tour provided a great introduction for a first time visitor to the multitude of attractions that Paris has to offer. In the visits to the great museums, you are able to view many of the most famous works of art while also being made aware how much more there is to explore. The same is true in the historical walks in Paris neighbourhoods and the wonderful meals in Parisian restaurants: your appetite is whetted to pursue more experiences on your own.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"The first "wow" moment was seeing the famous historical monuments from our taxi window: the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower. This was my fourth visit to Paris, France. This was my first visit to Paris on a tour. Having a Rick Steves tour guide provided an abundance of background information regarding the many historic sites we visited on the tour, Seven Days in Paris. Although I enjoyed my previous independent visits, I much preferred the guided tour experience. Our guide was exceptional and made my visit very fulfilling.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"Every day was a "wow" experience because Paris has so much to offer in terms of historic districts and sites. A Rick Steve's tour is a fantastic way to experience Europe, and we often recommend it to others - although only to those people who we would like to travel with ourselves - never to rude or grumpy people! We love the chance to get close to the local culture; learn about the art, history, and architecture; and also have free time to ourselves. We love that the logistics are handled for us, so we can spend more time seeing museums than figuring out how to get to them, for example.

Arnaud brought the city "alive" in so many ways, it's difficult to choose one. In particular was the discussion he had with us when visiting the Jewish quarter: the background how it became that, the situation the people faced during the war years, etc., and how his parents and grand-parents fared during that time.

I clearly enjoyed visiting the major attractions, walking the neighborhoods, and meeting interesting people. I was disappointed, however, in the rushed feeling of some walks. The intimate hotel in the heart of Paris, was a perfect start. Your guidebook was one of the best discoveries ever. In general, this was a good tour with a good variety of experiences included in the 7-day tour. My complaints have to do with the hurried pace of the tour; for example, our guide would point out places we should visit for eclairs or chocolates (for example) and then storm off quickly, not giving anyone a chance to sample the wares, which would only take 5-10 minutes at most. The walking pace did not allow photographs without being left behind, and many people in our group struggled to keep up.

I very much appreciated the extent to which your pre-trip info and tour guide empowered us in exploring on our own. We enjoyed the group events, but getting around Paris on the mtro and bus was a joy because of the metro-pass and guidance you provided. Of course, the museum pass was very helpful as well. Wish we could have picked it up at the hotel so we could have used it to visit a museum after our plane landed before our hotel room was ready.

"The art at the museums was breathtaking. The Eiffel Tower was much more lovely and graceful in person than I had anticipated from pictures. Won't ever forget the fabulous food available at so many wonderful outdoor cafes, where customers eat facing out to enjoy people watching."

Overall tour met or exceeded expectations. Guaranteed visits to most desired sights while providing framework to substitute (e.g., Pere Lachaise Cemetery for Marais Walk) and/or explore on own (e.g., Rodin Museum/Napoleon's Tomb). Including river cruise definite plus. Supplementing Toni w/ individual attraction experts outstanding.

The tour was great. The hotel was great and was centrally located. The staff was great and the breakfast in the mornings were outstanding. The food was great, good variety and fresh. Our tour guide Toni was really good. She was friendly, knowledgeable and conducted the tour and group with professionalism. The local tour guides were exceptional and very knowledgable about the museums and neighborhood. I liked that the tour events went until approx 1/2 a day and then there was free time.

"Monet's Water Lilies in The Orangerie were spectacular. The local guide we had for The Orangerie was spectacular and she gave me a new appreciation of the art that was there that allowed me to see it with a different perspective. The gardens at Versailles were also very beautiful."

I had a wonderful tour experience! I liked the fact that we started each day with planned activity. Then we were open to go and do what we wanted to do in the afternoon. Some days there was an activity for those who were interested. I also enjoyed the group dinners. I made some new friends on this trip! I would recommend this trip for people who have never been to Europe and those who have been before.

Enjoyed the small size of our group. Guided tours were great. Appreciated the free time and flexibility. The only time I was unhappy was when we were crammed on to abarge for a trip on the Seine. The boat was HUGE and filledcwith screaming middle schoolers. I would have rather stayed in the hotel.

Paris is everything imagined and more! We stayed in a lovely hotel in a gorgeous neighborhood. Our guide, Arnaud, is excellent, professional and personable. Our group enjoyed wonderful walks through the different areas of the city, the museums, mastered the metro, enjoyed the city highlights bus tour and loved the Seine River evening cruise. Our meals at local restaurants were excellent; I'm eating a plant based diet and Arnaud made it easy for me to obtain this.

Very good. This will be fleshed out in comments in boxes below. I think it's a shame that you don't do email lists with an opt-out provision. Every tour I've been on has done that, and we have never had a problem. The week in Paris went by so fast that I did not get around to seeking that information, and now I wish I had it.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"After our tour at Versailles, I took the tram and got off at Le Petit Trianon. After touring the house, I went out to the garden in back. It was a beautiful day, the flowers were blooming, it was quiet and just a wonderful experience to walk and sit throughout that garden. I decided to spend the rest of my free time there rather than try to rush out to the Hamlets too. It was a real treat for this retired landscape architect."

I was skeptical regarding how much I would get out of the tour as I had been to Paris on business many times in the past (at least once per year since 1989). It was my girlfriends first trip and the first time I had been there strictly on holiday. I can now say that the tour was a great experience and I now have a much greater appreciation for Paris.

Paris is overwhelming. With an abundance of vistas, landmarks, culture and hidden gems, it's unthinkable to visit the city without the help of a knowledgable guide. The structure of the tour was perfect, with guided tours in the morning and ample time on our own to enjoy suggested sights in whichever districts we were near. (Or venture across town on our own - the unlimited 7-day Metro pass is a huge benefit.)

Paris was the last place on my bucket list of places to visit, but I've always wanted to go on a Rick Steves tour and it was the only tour that fit in with my school's Spring Break. I'm so glad I went!!! The whole tour experience had me falling in love with Paris and wanting to see more of France. Having Patrick's Metro navigation, language and culture lessons made Paris accessible for our enjoyment. Best of Paris in Feb was great! Sure, the weather was cold and occasionally rainy, but every tour member came prepared and weather was no problem. In fact, the weather kept the crowds and pickpockets virtually non-existent. Walking right into museums and restaurants and getting eyeball-to-eyeball with Ms. Mona Lisa was so refreshing. Our guide, Patrick Vidal, was the consummate guide teaching French, wine tasting, and his funny comments helped us learn the Metro quickly. Au revoir Paris!!!

Our tour exceeded our expectations. It was informative, structured but not confining, and encouraged us to try things on our own. The walks through the neighborhoods gave us such a sense of place and understanding of Paris, and the Metro and free time allowed us to feel like we were living as locals!

"I think the overall WOW moment for me was actually seeing all of the things I had read about- Versailles, Notre Dame, the beautiful architecture. Walking around and seeing all of these things in living and breathing neighborhoods was just breathtaking. The art was unbelievable. Fabulous! I'm so glad we took this tour! We only knew a few words and phrases (toilette sil vous plait?) and the French people were very nice to us as we tried out our meager words but so many speak more English than we do French in Paris. Going to a place with so many, many places to see, food to eat, questions to ask, and not knowing the language a Rick Steve's tour is the best! Your tour leaders, we had 3 more at different locations, are so knowledgeable you learn so much in an easy manner.

I got to experience Paris at a level I would not have been able to without the guides' constant background information about people, places, history and knowing where to go and how to get there. No time was wasted. Thank you Rolinka and Virginia.

"For a first time visitor to Paris and trying to absorb it all I guess if I have to choose one "wow" moment, it would be the realization of the many years of history in the city. America being only 200 years old is just a baby."

We never would have seen or learned about all the things we did if we had not gone on the tour. Trying to do all this stuff without a good guide (and Rolinka was very good) just isn't possible. We were kept pretty busy and walked a "LOT" but there was a fair amount of free time to poke around on our own. It's a good thing we paid attention to the training at the orientation on using the subway or we would have been lost.

"I liked the Hall-of-Mirrors at Versailles. In fact, the entire palace was fantastic. We went in November and the gardens were out of season (and the statues were covered too). We were told that the late season visit resulted in fewer visitors. But the crowds were still very thick. I can't imagine what the crowds would be like during high tourist season!"

It was a dream trip for my mom and me. She is 83 and I was concerned it was going to be too much for her. Which, actually, it kind of was, but not your fault. The woman insisted on doing EVERYTHING including going to Monet's garden on our last day. She got Bronchitis. But a really cute doctor came to our hotel room. It was all good. Go French health care. We had a blast!!!

Favorite "WOW" moment

"We adored Marie. She was fantastic. All the guides were amazing. I can't remember her name, but the woman that toured us around the L' Orangerie changed my life. I felt like I got an art history degree in two hours. I wanted to learn, paint, read and create in a big way after that tour. My mom and I also had a magical time in Marie Antionette's hamlet at Versailles. The wine included at the final dinner was super classy. I feel like it bonded us all."

The tour was magnificant! I loved the experience of seeing Paris through walking Marie was wonderful, as were the ladies who served the breakfasts, the people at the hotel desk and my fellow tour mates. I saw alot of Paris, took many pictures and I have wonderful memories. I'm glad I chose a guided tour as opposed to just doing this on my own. Not only did I get to see the most famous spots, I got alot of history, which I am now trying to write down as I put my albumn together.

Others: the Eiffel Tower lit up at night; the traffic-cars buses taxis motorcycles and bicycles all on top of each other and no accidents! a mom riding to work dressed up on a bike with her child in back carrying his schoolbag; the French people being so good to us-I was told to expect some cold shoulders and did not receive any; the magnificant paintaings and the history of all of the "King Louis'"."

We thoroughly enjoyed our Rick Steves' 7 day Paris tour and highly recommend it to our friends. Accomodations, guides, hotel location --all of it was just what we had expected and more. Morning activities were well organized and informative, yet we had plenty of free time in the afternoon to venture out alone. Marie was always there to offer restaurant suggestions and more. She was very good at preparing us for using the Metro and in effectively using our Museum Passes. It was great!

First tour with RS, and it was very good. Pros: like staying put in one place and getting to know neighborhood and way around city. Excellent orientation by tour director of where we were, public transport and how to get from place to place by bus, train or subway. Sites seen were some of the big ones, so felt we saw "essential" Paris. Mobile headsets - YES! Cons: common areas in hotel too small. Except for farewell dinner at place selected by tour director, tour dinners mediocre.

It was FABULOUS! Our guide, Elisabeth, was/is wonderful. The headsets were absolutely necessary (I understand they aren't standard, but they should be!). All of the supplemental tours and tour guides were great. The restaurants, and the hotel was/were very good, to outstanding. I plan to go back to Paris. I wasn't sure what to expect. I've traveled quite a bit but have never taken a tour longer than a few hours, so this was a first for me. Good variety - river cruise, wine tasting, farewell dinner that fostered group bonding. Also, variety in places included - churches, districts in Paris, art museums, etc. However, very tiring for us. We opted out of some scheduled tours just to rest. This was not a surprise as you had warned us in your tour materials that it was going to be a lot of walking. However, there was also much STANDING and I thought a suggestion that one pack a portable seat would have been welcome.

We almost did not go on another Rick Steves tour becuase when we went on our first one in 2008, we found our experience lacking at that time due to the very poor quality of service from our tour guide. We absolutely loved not having to wait in line at the many places we visited with our guide; not sure if I should say that, but it was a really great bonus for us. We got just enough group time, and enough time to ourselves. Elizabeth was a wonderful guide, and great fun. Thank you for the wonderful experience. Lynn

We really enjoyed being with our tour group in Paris. Chris Coleman was an absolutely outstanding tour guide. We would go on another tour with her any day. We were kept busy as a group but had quality time on our own with good suggestions from Chris. Our hotel was top quality. We enjoyed our room, breakfast and the staff. Our location in the city was great. Each day our group tour was well planned. We got a really good overview in our six days there.

I really enjoyed our tour guide and the schedule.. The people on the tour were wonderful. Everyone was delightful and we all got along very well. I wish the tour also included a visit to the Paris flea market. I was really looking forward to going there but there was no time on Monday (since it closed at 5:00) and there were no other flea markets open during the 7-day visit.

I didn't think I'd learn so much about Paris as I did during my tour. After studying your guide book I felt that I wasn't walking into a strange city! Everything from taking the bus from the airport to going from place to place on the Metro wasn't really foreign. And of course it got easier from there on. The recommendations for places to eat were outstanding. Rick's pallet is right on!

"Tough for me to say because there were so many all made possible by our wonderful tour guide Chris. Versailles was most impressive because of it's sheer size. The Louvre was my biggest wow because of the information presented and the sights packed into one large building. I really need to go back there when I have a free month or more."

Chris' knowledge of Paris and the places we visited was great. She also taught us to use the Metro, Bus, and RER(?). We had enough free time to explore on our own and never felt that we were lost in a foreign city.

The tour was awesome! A couple helpful hints, 1) hang onto your metro/RER ticket. You may need it to exit. 2)The Roissy bus driver and shuttle back to the airport do not carry change. Buy the bus ticket inside the airport at the machine. 3)Provide a map of where the metro is at Opera so you can find it getting off the Roissy bus! 4) Educate tourists on what the metro passes look like for veterans wanting your seat. I was somewhat assaulted saying no to a man not understanding what he was showing

"I was impressed that a group of 25 strangers got along so well. We had a great group and I'm glad it was held at 25. Anymore would have been too many. My "wow" is that I never expected a tour to be that fun and well organized! The trip was better than expected! Chris, the guide, was incredible!"

This was exactly what I was looking for in a tour! I wanted an organized tour to ensure that I would get the most out of my time abroad, but because I had also traveled before, I wanted some freedom and independence as well. This tour provided just the right amount of both, allowing me to feel supported but unencumbered.

Though this was my 4th trip to Paris, it was my 1st time on a tour; and, elfin! now I "know" Paris! Toni was a great guide, as was Flavia (sp?) and our Louvre/Versailles guide. At last! I feel like I learned, tasted, drank, saw (and, yes, "smelled") the Paris I'd always dreamed about but never quite captured when I visited on "my own".

Favorite "WOW" moment

"Walking into Sainte-Chapelle! Those amazing, towering stained glass windows! Unbelievable. Then that evening (with Toni's help in getting tickets) returning for a concert & watching those stained glass windows simply glow as the sun set! A sight to behold, whilst listening to "angelic" music! That day was our wedding anniversary & we couldn't have celebrated in any better way! We topped off our evening w/a simple dinner @ a bistro on Rue Cler. Fun, fabulous and "fancy" without the fancy prices."

Pre-Tour

We've put together some specific information on what you should know about this tour before you go. You'll also find more general information about "Getting Ready for Your Tour" on our Tour FAQ.

Trip Resources

Learn more about Paris: Check out a collection of Rick's TV shows, radio interviews and articles, plus find a list of recommended books and movies.

Transportation

Prior to your tour departure, you will receive detailed directions on how to get from the airport to your tour hotel, as well as contact information for your hotel in case you wish to book pre- or post-tour hotel accommodations.

Many tour members arrive a day or two before the tour begins — and those who don't, wish they had. This allows you ample time to get over jet lag and make the most of the first few days of the tour.

If you plan to travel in Europe before or after your tour, Paris is perfectly located for quick trips around France or to neighboring countries. London is only three hours away by the Chunnel train; Brussels and Bruges are about two hours away; and Amsterdam is a mere four-hour train ride.

Flying within Europe can be reasonable. Ask your travel agent or check Rick's list of European budget airlines

Read Rick's train travel and rail pass tips and decide if your travel plans merit a rail pass.

If you need more information about additional European travel or for specific questions about your tour, contact the Tour Department at 425-608-4217 or email tour@ricksteves.com.

Sightseeing On Your Own

If you arrive in Paris before your tour begins, learn the Métro (subway) system and use Rick Steves Paris guidebook for sightseeing ideas and good-value restaurants. If you are in Paris in the off-season, it's a good idea to double-check museum hours and closures with a quick call.

Here are suggestions for sightseeing in Paris that we do not do as a group: Arc de Triomphe*; Les Invalides*; Jewish Art & History*, Marmottan, and Pompidou* museums; Eiffel Tower; St. Sulpice organ concert; Père-Lachaise cemetery; Paris sewer tour; day trips to Monet's Giverny garden, Chartres, Vaux-le-Vicomte and Fontainebleau*.  (* Entry is free with the Paris Museum Pass you’ll be given when the tour begins. To save money, you may want to save a couple of these for your free afternoons.)

The Marmottan museum is closed Mondays, and the Jewish Art & History Museum is closed Saturdays; most other museums are closed Tuesdays. Confirm all sightseeing plans with a tourist information office.

This tour does not include a visit to the Eiffel Tower. However it is often a highlight for any traveler and one we highly recommend. Avoid the lines by booking tickets several weeks in advance at: http://ticket.toureiffel.fr. Pre- or post-tour is the best time to visit the tower. If you need to visit the tower during the tour, consider making a reservation for Day 2 or Day 5 after 16:00 or any evening after 22:00.
