Itinerary

Daily Activity Key
  • Light = 2-4 miles of mostly level walking throughout the day.
  • Moderate = 2-6 miles walking throughout the day with some hills and stairs.
  • Strenuous = 2-8 miles walking throughout the day with lots of hills, stairs and uneven terrain.

Day 1: Welcome to Paris

We'll gather at our hotel in Paris at 3 p.m. for a short meeting and orientation stroll around our neighborhood, followed by a panoramic tour of the City of Light aboard a private bus. Then we'll get acquainted with one another over a delicious "Welcome to Paris" dinner together. Bus: 2 hrs. Walking: light.

Day 2: The Historic Heart of Paris

Let's begin where Paris did, on the Ile de la Cité. Your guide will lead a walking tour of the city's early history, including visits to a pair of the world's most significant medieval Gothic churches: the legendary Notre-Dame Cathedral and the exquisite Sainte-Chapelle. Then we'll take a stroll through the bohemian Latin Quarter, with free time for lunch on your own. We'll end our afternoon at the Cluny National Museum of the Middle Ages, where after an introduction, you’ll be free to visit the sublime Lady and the Unicorn tapestry and have a rare, up-close look at the artistry of original stained-glass windows from Sainte-Chapelle. Walking: moderate.

Day 3: Montmartre

This morning we'll hop on the Métro, then hike up Montmartre to tour the colorful neighborhood which was the haunt of artistic geniuses a century ago — including Van Gogh, Picasso, and Renoir — and generations of hopeful artists since. We'll end our walk with spectacular views of Paris from the Sacré-Coeur Basilica. You'll be free for lunch and have time to explore more of the city on your own this afternoon. We'll regroup this evening to enjoy a wine tasting and dinner together before embarking on a dreamy Seine River cruise. Boat: 1 hr. Walking: strenuous.

Day 4: The Marais District and the Louvre

We'll begin our day with a walking tour through Paris' diverse, history-layered Marais district. As we walk we'll learn about enlightened 17th-century urban planning at the beautiful Place des Vosges, the cultural roots of the Jewish Quarter and how the French Revolution grew from this neighborhood. Our walk will end at the Carnavalet Museum, a cavalcade of Parisian history, which you can visit on your own. This evening, Europe's greatest museum — the Louvre — is open late, and we'll take full advantage of that. You'll come face-to-face with the works of Rafael, Delacroix and Leonardo, and timeless treasures that include Mona Lisa, Winged Victory, Venus de Milo and hundreds more. Walking: strenuous.

Day 5: All Day at Château de Versailles

Today we'll explore the elaborate palace that Louis XIV, XV, and XVI called home. We'll make the 30-minute train trip to Versailles, where we'll have a guided tour of the dazzling Hall of Mirrors and other sumptuous rooms of the palace. You'll then have free time to wander through the expansive gardens and visit the farm animals at Marie Antoinette's hamlet — or zip back to Paris early via one of the frequent trains. Train: 1 hr. Walking: strenuous.

Day 6: Masterpieces of Paris

This morning we'll tour the Orangerie Museum featuring Monet's magnificent water lilies and home to a fine collection of other works by Renoir, Matisse, Picasso and more. You'll be well oriented and have time this afternoon to see the world's greatest collection of Impressionist art — almost next door — at the Orsay Museum, with art from Monet and Degas to Cézanne and Gauguin and beyond. Or visit other nearby places covered by your included 6-Day Paris Museum Pass, such as the Rodin Museum, or the military museum of Les Invalides. Tonight we'll enjoy a farewell feast together, sharing travel memories and toasting new friends. Salut! Walking: moderate.

Day 7: Tour Over After Breakfast

It's a breeze to reach Paris' airports by taxi, shuttle or public transportation. Your guide will help you with any post-tour planning, leaving you well prepared for the road ahead. Merci et au revoir!

Overall the trip was great. The hotel was very nice and in a great location. Going in the winter meant we never waited in lines for anything. Actually the weather in Paris was better than the weather on the US East Coast!! Would definitely recommend Paris in the winter. Only complaint, the group dinners were just so-so.

This was an absolutely marvelous tour! I enjoyed it all - the sights, the museums, the food, the wine, the champagne, and the free time. The hotel was nicely located close to a market and the Metro, and Toni Seymour was a fantastic guide. I loved the meals that she chose for us!

"Our farewell dinner at La Petite Chaise was the best meal that I have ever enjoyed! The food was exquisite. I loved the desserts. (Toni got an extra one for me.) The wait staff were wonderful. I want to go back there!"

This is our second Rick Steve's tour and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Just the right amount of free time to see all the other stuff we were interested in seeing that isn't part of the tour. We had a good mix of ages and travel experiences which makes it interesting. The weather was exceptionally warm for February so that helped with the experience. Seeing Louvre at night helped avoid the crowds.

I thought the tour was very well organized, very informative. I liked how the tour took you to the areas of interest, but also gave you the independence to explore on your own. Teaching the group how to use the public transportation system was a great idea, so that it was easy to maneuver on your own. I thought the tour guide Toni was good, I also really liked the other guides Brad and especially Elizabeth. She was fantastic, I left tour with a greater appreciation for art history.

Our trip was "magnifique"! Patrick was most informative and entertaining, his passion for the details enhanced our experience exponentially. The "Paris in 7 days" was the perfect balance of time spent together as a group and time left to explore individually. I look forward to exploring another city on a Rick Steves' Tour.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"Saint Chappelle. The moment you immerge from a narrow, dark, stone spiral staircase in to a room filled with diffused light from the opulent stained glass. It's like walking into a kaleidoscope of color. Followed by the awe of the detail depicted in each scene in each individual pane."

Best of Paris in Feb was great! Sure, the weather was cold and occasionally rainy, but every tour member came prepared and weather was no problem. In fact, the weather kept the crowds and pickpockets virtually non-existent. Walking right into museums and restaurants and getting eyeball-to-eyeball with Ms. Mona Lisa was so refreshing. Our guide, Patrick Vidal, was the consummate guide teaching French, wine tasting, and his funny comments helped us learn the Metro quickly. Au revoir Paris!!!

Favorite "WOW" moment

"Our favorite moment came during tour "free time". While on the second floor of the Eiffel Tower, a howling rainstorm suddenly blew in and quickly passed by. As the sun returned, below us was a double rainbow which we looked at from the Eiffel Tower above the rainbow!!! Incredibly beautiful and forever memorable!!!"

Our tour exceeded our expectations. It was informative, structured but not confining, and encouraged us to try things on our own. Several stops or tours we would not have planned on our own, and the guidance by Patrick took away the intimidation factor of being in a country with a different language. The walks through the neighborhoods gave us such a sense of place and understanding of Paris, and the Metro and free time allowed us to feel like we were living as locals!

Favorite "WOW" moment

"I think the overall WOW moment for me was actually seeing all of the things I had read about- Versailles, Notre Dame, the beautiful architecture. Walking around and seeing all of these things in living and breathing neighborhoods was just breathtaking. The art was unbelievable. The Orangarie was a quiet gem with Monet's large murals, Musea d'Orsay was exhilarating with all of the Impressionist pieces that changed art as we know it. Every day we said, "That was even better than we imagined!""

Mary Bouron was our main guide and was fabulous. She gave us a view from the point of an American who lives in Paris. She was so enthusiastic and very informative. The guides at the individual museums, etc. were superb and I am guessing art historians in their own right. I especially liked that the tours were in the mornings and we were free in the afternoons and some evenings.

My husband and I got married last year and planned a Paris trip for our honeymoon. This winter Paris trip met both our needs. As it was my husband's first trip, he wanted to see all the monuments and museums. I was my fifth trip and I wanted to learn to be a Parisian and get around the city by metro and bus. Voila! This trip had it all! Lower cost, lessons in self reliance, and seeing all the tourist stuff without the summer lines and heat. A stylish, authentic experience!

Favorite "WOW" moment

Very enriching and fun. Mary and all of the local tour guides provided excellent historical, as well as current information to us about all of the sites, the culture, the architecture and people to us. The hotel and staff were wonderful. Although the temperature in January was chilly (as expected), the benefit of missing large crowds was well worth it. Loved the small (16) group size.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"We arrived a day early, and it was wonderful to walk out of our hotel that evening and have the Eiffel Tower lit up and within a few minutes walk. Excellent hotel location! On the actual tour itself with the group, my favorite day was the one spent in Montmatre. Exploring the residential neighborhoods, visiting the artists and the beautiful Sacre-Coeur Bascillica were so memorable."

I had more fun than I expected- this tour exceeded my expectations. 1. The guides were all good- Rolinka had wonderful experience and was able to so easily manage the tour. 2. The headsets were a GREAT idea. We all could hear even when there were large crowds. It added a very personal side to the tour- we all could hear everyone's questions and the guides' answers. 3.The tour with Favia was my favorite- but I also really enjoyed the guided walks.

Overall - just exactly the tour experience I was hoping for and could never have imagined. Our group was a delightful mix - families with young adults, a couple experiencing Europe for the first time, smart singles who wanted not only to see Paris but to know Paris. Our guide Rolinka was exceptional. She inspired all of us to explore, to talk with people, to step out of our comfort zones and experience the city. Magnifique!

Favorite "WOW" moment

"My favorite "wow" moment occured just outside the Metro at La Tour Maubourg - the stop closest to our hotel. On my first day I got turned around and went the wrong way- right instead of left. I loved that while walking through a neighborhood, our guide Elisabeth would stop us in front of a building and tell us what had happened there hundreds of years earlier. Having a guide made it possible to cover so much more ground in the 7 days I was there than I ever could have on my own. I was also very surprised at how many tourists were there but we were able to bypass the very, very long lines to get into top tourist sites.

I had a wonderful time. Everything about our tour was great. I really couldn't have imagined anything better. Daniela, our tour guide was superb. We got a real in-depth understanding of the City, and time to explore on our own. In addition, Daniela gave us some great insight into food, wine, champagne, and many of the spots that make Paris such a special place. She really helped us to "feel" the city, for which I will be forever grateful.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"Paris at Christmastime is so beautiful. Seeing the Champ de Elysees all lit up, with the Christmas Market was indescribable. Paris truly is the City of Lights, and from atop the Arc de Triomphe, you can see everything. Standing atop the Arc is when I thought "wow." This place is pretty amazing."

Our guide, Daniella, was excellent. She was very enthusiastic which helped us through some rainy weather. She gave us the tools to travel around Paris on our own in our free time. The guided tour to free time ratio was great. Everyone had enough free time to create their own experience in Paris. I would definitely recommend Rick Steves' tours for anyone planning tours in Europe.

Favorite "WOW" moment

The tour was exactly what I had hoped for. It contained enough walking , information , sightseeing and FUN! Enough to do with our guide and enough time to explore on our own. Our hotel was perfect and in a great area. Staff was helpful and cheerful all the time. Our tour guide was exceptional in his knowledge, but yet didn't make it feel like a recital. Fabulous! I'm so glad we took this tour! We only knew a few words and phrases (toilette sil vous plait?) and the French people were very nice to us as we tried out our meager words but so many speak more English than we do French in Paris. Going to a place with so many, many places to see, food to eat, questions to ask, and not knowing the language a Rick Steve's tour is the best! Your tour leaders, we had 3 more at different locations, are so knowledgeable you learn so much in an easy manner.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"Patrick, our tour guide, was our favorite part of the tour! I've told so many people about this tour and how easy Patrick made it for us. He taught us about our neighborhood, how to take the metro, the bus, and how to call him if we got lost. He was so informative about the history about everything we saw. He could answer anything we asked and had a fabulous sense of humor. The "wow" moment was the last night we walked to the Eiffel Tower and Patrick passed around Champagne and sparkling cider."

The tour was booked as a vigorous walking tour. It was but was doable. We were lucky enough to have had two guides, one in charge and one apprentice. Both were professional, knowledgeable and always there for any needs or concerns. I got to experience Paris at a level I would not have been able to without the guides' constant background information about people, places, history and knowing where to go and how to get there. No time was wasted. Thank you Rolinka and Virginia.

Favorite "WOW" moment

We never would have seen or learned about all the things we did if we had not gone on the tour. Trying to do all this stuff without a good guide (and Rolinka was very good) just isn't possible. We were kept pretty busy and walked a "LOT" but there was a fair amount of free time to poke around on our own. It's a good thing we paid attention to the training at the orientation on using the subway or we would have been lost.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"I liked the Hall-of-Mirrors at Versailles. In fact, the entire palace was fantastic. We went in November and the gardens were out of season (and the statues were covered too). The tour was magnificant! I loved the experience of seeing Paris through walking Marie was wonderful, as were the ladies who served the breakfasts, the people at the hotel desk and my fellow tour mates. I saw alot of Paris, took many pictures and I have wonderful memories. I'm glad I chose a guided tour as opposed to just doing this on my own. It was a dream trip for my mom and me. She is 83 and I was concerned it was going to be too much for her. Which, actually, it kind of was, but not your fault. We had a blast!!!

Sites seen were some of the big ones, so felt we saw "essential" Paris. Mobile headsets - YES! Cons: common areas in hotel too small. Except for farewell dinner at place selected by tour director, tour dinners mediocre.

It more than met my expectations. I thought the organization and planning could not have been better, with just the right amount of scheduled events, balanced with enough free time. It was FABULOUS! Our guide, Elisabeth, was/is wonderful. The headsets were absolutely necessary (I understand they aren't standard, but they should be!). All of the supplemental tours and tour guides were great. The restaurants, and the hotel was/were very good, to outstanding. I plan to go back to Paris. Elisabeth trained us on getting around town, and now I know how to get around the city with ease. There are many more things to see and do, & this tour gave me a great, initial foundation.

"That's really hard to convey. So much was great. I will state that while I don't believe I am someone who lives to work, the French have it down pat, they DO work to live! I loved the breakfasts in our Hotel: L'Hotel Londres Eiffel. The hotel staff was great, and I feel that the breakfasts at this hotel sum up the French Experience. Also, I would be remiss if I didn't stated how my fellow tour members were great company."

I wasn't sure what to expect. I've traveled quite a bit but have never taken a tour longer than a few hours, so this was a first for me. The schedule was well thought out without being too overbearing. There was enough overview of the sights and areas of interest so that I could make a well informed decision as to what activities/areas I wanted to further pursue. The information provided by the guide was presented in an interesting and informative way...very enjoyable.

Good variety - river cruise, wine tasting, farewell dinner that fostered group bonding. Also, variety in places included - churches, districts in Paris, art museums, etc. However, very tiring for us. We opted out of some scheduled tours just to rest. This was not a surprise as you had warned us in your tour materials that it was going to be a lot of walking. However, there was also much STANDING and I thought a suggestion that one pack a portable seat would have been welcome.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"Getting to by-pass long lines to get into popular venues, such as Notre Dame. Also, the closing dinner. A big disappointment was the river cruise - just a barge, really, seeing from the river in the dark buildings we had seen much more clearly during the day at street level. Make it more romantic!"

Overall, my experience was outstanding. The tour was both physically and mentally invigorating. I loved the sights and museums, and churches, the food, and discovering the variety of neighborhoods. Seeing the Eiffel Tower from all angles all over the city gave me a little thrill each day. Going to the head of the line at the Louvre. L'Orangerie, and Versailles was very special. Learning to use public transportation through the tour was invaluable.

"There are so many, but I think walking from the train station in the seemingly ordinary town of Versailles and then turning the corner to see the incredibly lush, golden, and larger-than-life palace was a big WOW. Our guide brought the story of Marie Antoinette to life there. Another "wow"was the tour of Montmartre[INVALID]our guides definitely conjured the spirits of the artists and transported us to another era. Seeing the view from the steps of Sacre Couer was the finishing touch to a wonderful day."

The Rick Steves guide, Toni, was excellent. The local guides for individual tour events were also excellent. I appreciated the amount of free time. I had a wonderful experience overall on your tour. Paris, of course could stand on it's own merits but your tour guide Toni Seymour made it come alive with her expert comments along the way. We almost did not go on another Rick Steves tour becuase when we went on our first one in 2008, we found our experience lacking at that time due to the very poor quality of service from our tour guide. This was such a fun tour. I was completely open to whatever was planned as it was my first visit to Paris. Each day of the tour is well thought out and it was interesting to understand the different regions of the city and their history. The free time was perfect to explore on our own and soak up the culture of the particular region we were in. The Metro pass was critical to getting around, and the Museum pass a wonderful bonus to enrich and make the tour worthwhile and complete.

The tour was awesome! A couple helpful hints, 1) hang onto your metro/RER ticket. You may need it to exit. 2)The Roissy bus driver and shuttle back to the airport do not carry change. Buy the bus ticket inside the airport at the machine. 3)Provide a map of where the metro is at Opera so you can find it getting off the Roissy bus! 4) Educate tourists on what the metro passes look like for veterans wanting your seat. I was somewhat assaulted saying no to a man not understanding what he was showing

The tour was everything I expected. The literature was right on and following the book was an added advantage because it synched so well with the actual tour. Patrick was a knowledgeable and entertaining leader of our pack. I did not feel herded or pushed and we still covered everything. Even though we stayed in one place versus moving around, it is still as physically demanding as a tour that changes local every couple of days. Lots of walking and standing but well worth it.

"You know I must be getting old because I did not really have a "WOW" moment. But the entire tour was a wow for me because it was a new experience in a new city that by the end of the tour, felt very comfortable and certainly was no longer intimidating. Barriers were broken through - language, fear of new and strange places, and the history of Paris was so well presented we didn't even realize until it was over how much ground (time-wise) we had covered. That deserves a wow."

Had a great time. We extended our stay by 4 days and we felt very comfortable on our own after Patrick taught us the ins and outs of getting around via the transit system. Really enjoyed the amount of free time we had after Patrick showed us around for the days event. That said, he was never far away once he set us free.

I had a fantastic time. I practiced my French, and even started thinking in French (sort of). I loved walking three blocks to watch the picnickers on the Champa ex Mars waiting for the Eiffel Tower to sparkle. I almost got my fill of Impressionist paintings, which takes a lot. I loved experiencing the different French neighborhoods. I felt like an honorary Parisian, and can't wait to go back.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"The water lily paintings at the Orangerie. I love Monet, but hasn't cared much for his water lily paintings, which was confirmed by seeing the one in the Oraay. but somehow, being surrounded by the paintings in the Orangerie - times two rooms - was completely different. I loved looking at them from afar, then up close to see the brush strokes and blobs of paint. They completely captivated me."

I feel inadequate to the task. Everything about the tour exceeded my expectations. Our guide Patrick was excellent, careful and opened my eyes to a lot of interesting quirks of our host country that I would not have noticed. Everything ran on time and yet I never felt rushed. I was sick for a day or so. Patrick and our hotel folks accommodated me with caring and good care during that episode. I will use the Rick Steves organization again. thanks for a great trip. I have never been on a guided tour trip of any kind before. Initially I had planned on being super prepared/ organized going into this trip. Due to a changing job assignment, the associated deadlines, weekly travel & other factors; I was not able to be 'super' anything but exhausted and drained going into this trip. It was an extreme relief to arrive and be able to participate fully, even though I had not gotten as prepared as I wanted to be.

Our tour exceeded all our expectations. Our guide, Patrick, and every on-site additional guide we had were outstanding. Patrick empowered us to explore Paris on our own, enriched us with information and insights and facilitated every aspect of the tour seemingly effortlessly. We can't praise his efforts, the tour format or the experience enough. We will highly recommend a Rick Steves Tour to family and friends.

Our guides provided insights into the humanness of those who came before us and how we are very much alike. Walking the streets, experiencing the vitality of the Paris of right now while feeling a connection to the vitality of Paris in the past was truly a fabulous experience."

This was exactly the way I wanted to experience Paris. The group was small so there was virtually no waiting arround. Enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and became a friend to each of us.

Group dynamic nstantly friendly, warm, supportive and fun. Esy to join other members, on spur of the moment, during "on your own" time, for a stroll, meal or beer / glass of wine ... and laughs. A lot of walking and being on your feet ... and my feet hurt a lot some days. I wished the hotel offered foot massage at the end of the day ... or that I knew where to find one (easily) on my own. Overall a wonderful set of experiences! Refreshing to my well being.

"In the Marias district of Paris (i.e., Jewish section) had the best falafal sandwich, then met an Orthodox Jew and I agreed to "put on Tefillin" (a Jewish prayer ritual) while he talked me through the prayer ... as it turns out, we are both from Brooklyn and know someone in common in Crown Heights. We each took pictures of the both of us and he offered to open up the Synagogue, which he did, for my wife and I, plus another tour member with us and a group of folks from Israel. Very cool!"

This trip exceeded my expectations. Our guide was super friendly, energetic, calm and thoughtful. The hotel was wonderful: comfortable, attractive, impeccably clean. The staff was friendly and very helpful. A/C made a big difference on many warm summer nights. We had a great group, truly no "grumps." I feel that I experienced an amazing overview of Paris and could return on my own and take the metro and bus confidently. Great value.I could not have seen and done all that we did on my own.

My husband & I were in Paris recently, but I wanted to return to experience more of the history, art, and just the feeling of being in the Paris gardens. We had traveled on Rick Steves tours 10 and 7 years ago, so I knew that joining up with a RS group would be a great experience and also give me the freedom to explore. This was my first time as a solo traveler, and I ended up with a really nice roommate. Paris is such a perfect city to be comfortable as a solo traveler - highly recommend it!

This tour was exactly what I hoped for when I decided on my first Rick Steves tour. The small group (only 17 of us I believe) was a wonderful mix of like-minded, pleasant people. Toni was such a great guide, and made sure everyone was comfortable from our first meeting to our last toast at the Eiffel Tower. Though this was my 4th trip to Paris, it was my 1st time on a tour; and, elfin! now I "know" Paris! Toni was a great guide, as was Flavia (sp?) and our Louvre/Versailles guide. At last! I feel like I learned, tasted, drank, saw (and, yes, "smelled") the Paris I'd always dreamed about but never quite captured when I visited on "my own".

Favorite "WOW" moment

"Walking into Sainte-Chapelle! Those amazing, towering stained glass windows! Unbelievable. Then that evening (with Toni's help in getting tickets) returning for a concert & watching those stained glass windows simply glow as the sun set! A sight to behold, whilst listening to "angelic" music! That day was our wedding anniversary & we couldn't have celebrated in any better way! We topped off our evening w/a simple dinner @ a bistro on Rue Cler. Fun, fabulous and "fancy" without the fancy prices."

I liked that we had organized tours but that we also had free time to explore things that were not listed on the tour that I felt were must sees for me. I enjoyed the company of all those I went on the tour with and of course Toni our guide was great. I thought we had excellent guides for Montmartre area, Louvre, Versailles, and the Organerie. I know I couldn't have found such excellent guides on my own. Stayed at a wonderful hotel in a great location.

Our guide Toni was extremely well organized, humorous and very knowledgable. On her "night off" she organized an informal dinner to celebrate a fellow tour members birthday at a local restaurant. Elisabeth and Flavia were our very knowledgable museum guides and Brad led us on an interesting and humorous tour of Mont Martre. With the exception of the flights over and back, this tour was excellent. Toni, our main leader and guide, was vivacious, fun, energetic, inclusive and informed, just excellent. The docents at the Louvre, Versailles and the Orangerie (Elizabeth and Flavia) were extraordinary. Pre-Tour

We've put together some specific information on what you should know about this tour before you go. You'll also find more general information about "Getting Ready for Your Tour" on our Tour FAQ.

Sightseeing On Your Own

If you arrive in Paris before your tour begins, learn the Métro (subway) system and use Rick Steves' Paris guidebook for sightseeing ideas and good-value restaurants. If you are in Paris in the off-season, it's a good idea to double-check museum hours and closures with a quick call.

Here are suggestions for sightseeing in Paris that we do not do as a group: Arc de Triomphe; Les Invalides; Jewish Art & History, Marmottan, and Pompidou museums; Eiffel Tower; St. Sulpice organ concert; Père-Lachaise cemetery; Paris sewer tour; day trips to Monet's Giverny garden, Chartres, Vaux-le-Vicomte and Fontainebleau.

The Marmottan museum is closed Mondays, and the Jewish Art & History Museum is closed Saturdays; most other museums are closed Tuesdays. Confirm all sightseeing plans with a tourist information office.

Eiffel Tower Reservations: The tour does not include a visit to the Eiffel Tower. However it is often a highlight for any traveler and one we highly recommend. Avoid the lines by booking tickets in advance at: http://ticket.toureiffel.fr. Pre- or post-tour is the best time to visit the tower. If you need to visit the tower during the tour, consider making a reservation for Day 2 or Day 5 after 16:00 or any evening after 22:00.

Transportation

Most tour members arrive a day or two before the tour begins — and those who don't, wish they had. This allows you ample time to get over jet lag and make the most of the first few days of the tour.

Paris is perfectly located for quick trips around France or to neighboring countries. London is only three hours away by the Chunnel train; Brussels and Bruges are about two hours away; and Amsterdam is a mere four-hour train ride.

Flying within Europe can be reasonable. Ask your travel agent or check Rick's list of European budget airlines

Read Rick's train travel and rail pass tips and decide if your travel plans merit a rail pass.

Prior to your tour departure, you will receive detailed directions on how to get from the airport to your tour hotel, as well as contact information for your hotel in case you wish to book pre- or post-tour hotel accommodations.

If you need more information about additional European travel or for specific questions about your tour, contact the Tour Department at 425/608-4217 or email tour@ricksteves.com.
