November 2010 - November 2011 - Europe and beyond
Hi there. I'm taking off for a round the world tour leaving from Paris 11/2010. From there I want to see the top 100 wonders of the world including the top 10 scuba diving sites. If you're a diver, too, that's even better.
Backpacking/flying/railing and staying in apartments/houses/ and wherever wonderful I discover. Seeking QUALITY experiences with like-minded fellow travelers.
My child is going away to college in May, and now it's my chance of the lifetime to see all the places I've been yearning to see.
The itinerary is loosely based on Rick Steve's tours mixed with National Geographic's top 100 places to see. Planning it for optimal weather and touring conditions.
My travel budget is $150/day or so and may include renting apartments/ gites / etc. Open to all possibilities. Paying our own way and keeping private rooms.
If you're 35-55 - travel fit, fun-loving, respectful, optimistic, adventurous, and resourceful, let's talk.
I speak fluent French and English, and passable Spanish. I have traveled in France and Latin America and been on 600+ Caribbean dives.

Greetings! I'm traveling to Europe by way of Amsterdam, and will be in country from December 13 - January 1. I would love to hook up with fellow travelers to see the sights. I have relatives in Liege, and will be spending Christmas week with them, but other than that, am free. Here's my tentative itinerary:
December 13 - December 17: Amsterdam (definitely) December 17 - December 20: Rotterdam? Maastricht? Cologne? I dunno. December 20 - December 27 - Liege with the family December 27 - January 1 - Brussels January 2 - fly back to states :(

Ger/Switz/Austria mid-late Dec 09
Contemplating a Europe trip (Germany/Switz/Austria) in mid-late December 2009.
Thinking about 3 nights in Munich, a few days in Salzburg and/or Innsbruck and at least 3 nights in Bern. Maybe even a few nights somewhere to ski (experienced but not good). I've been to Germany/Switzerland before but it was more of a whirlwind 8 city/12 day trip.
Partner would definitely need to be a non-smoker, no drugs, easy going person. Drinking within reason is fine. I'm a SWM, 46.
Usually like staying at nice places although not necessarily luxury places. I like planning to the level of knowing where I'll be staying but not details for every hour of the trip. Some days are more go-go and others more leisurely. Plan to use the trains.

I am planning a trip to Italy for October / November 2009 for a month. I will be renting a car in Milan and heading my way down to Palermo. I will proably adopt the same route as the RS Tour: best of Italy (http://tours.ricksteves.com/tours09/product.cfm/rurl/code/ITA09/200) My itinerary is pretty open and flexible.
I prefer to see the places that are oof of the beaten path,,,,and stay as far away from all the tourist if at all possible (I know there are some things that this is inevitable).
I would like a travel buddy that has a similiar travel philosophy. I will proabl not stay in a hostel,,,,but will try to find the best accomodations for the value.

Railpass anyone?
I'm going to be leaving Stockholm around the 25th of September. I've got a railpass and no set itinerary, other than I have to be in Berlin on the 6th of October to fly back to the States. I'm backpacking / hosteling it for the most part, but not adverse to a decent hotel sometimes. I'd like to see Prague, and maybe Budapest, but I'm free to travel anywhere.

I'm doing a three week solo trip beginning late Sept, starting in Italy (Parma, Venice, Trieste), then to Slovenia (Ljubljana) and Croatia (Zagreb, Plitvice Lakes, Dubrovnik, Korcula, and Split), a detour to Mostar, Bosnia, then ending with two days in Paris! Mostly traveling by train. I'd be interesting more in meeting up with people who might be in the same cities at the same time, to hang out with or just have a meal with, more than finding one person to travel with the whole time. I met up with someone in Europe a few years ago thanks to a posting here and it was really fun!

Rome Late Sept-Early Oct
Hello! I am a single 31yr old female who is planning my first trip to Italy! I plan to leave for Rome on Sept 25 and return on Oct 3rd. So far i plan on making Rome my home each night but would like to enjoy day trips to Positano and possibly Florence or Capri. Being my first trip abroad and going solo, it would be nice to plan on meeting up with someone during part of the trip to enjoy some sightseeing with. I'm looking into B&B's as i write this. I am going on a budget but am not at all fond of the idea of staying in a hostel room with people i don't know. I also don't see the point in overpaying for a room that i won't be in often. If you have any hotel/BB/hostel suggestions, please let me know! Also, female travel buddies would be preferred. I'm very versatile and would equally enjoy museums during the day and looking into nightlife after-hours.

For years I've dreamt of returning to Europe. I'll be turning 60 in December. I like to say souixante ans. My travel interest have changed from rushing around from site to site, partying, shopping and buying expensive souvenirs to gardening, history, art,writing enjoying the locals,learning another language,enjoying good food ,good wine,slow hikes,riding around the country-side and relaxing.This kind of trip is nice for slow walkers and physically challenged folks.I am definitely not interested in whirlwind tours and waking up at 6am to be on a bus by 7am everyday.Hostels are not for me anymore. I need a home base with a shower and I need to know where all the toilets are. I want to find some like-minded friends to travel to Italy and/or France or to the British Isles in 2010 on a budgeted but comfortable and tasteful tour. This trip would be for those of us who don't have a lot of money.Just regular folks who don't need to be too fancy and thought that travel was just a far-fetched once in a life time thing. If one started now, by next August,one could save enough for the trip. Do not go into debt.Do not start buying lots of clothes but do start walking and eating right.Do not wait for retirement but retired folks would be welcome.Do get your passport and one good piece of carry on luggage.Do start reading Ricks Steves everything.I saved 1200.00 just cutting out Starbucks for one year and another 1200.00 by limiting eating out. In most cases this is more than your airfare.I've discovered that there is nothing in life which excites me more than travel and I am willing to sacrifice. I think I will have a yard sale next month to get started. We could rent an apartment or villa for ten days if there are enough of us. We could prepare most of our own meals,have picnics,shop in markets and grocery stores, rent a minivan,take trains and buses ,plan our own itinerary,relax, then go back again next year. I'd like to hear from anyone who is interested in this kind of travel. Travel does not have to be so expensive when you do it right. I'd like to hear about your budget travel ideas again and again. No travel agents please.

Mid 50s couple, very seasoned Europe travelers and are making 2010 plans. Have been to the region several times but not in late June when the lavender is blooming. Couples or singles fine.
We prefer apartments to hotels so are considering sharing one to get better value for the money, more space. We will have a car. I will be traveling around Europe (alone) beginning in Iceland on Sept 10, 2009. My journey will take me to Oslo on Sept 15, and from there, who knows? I'm hoping to experience Germany, Poland and make my way down to Croatia via Hungry and whatever destination strikes me.

I am middle-age woman interested in visiting centre Italy: Rome, Viterbo, Pompei, Tivoli (Villa Adriana), the lakes and the Etruscan art & escavations by Tarquinia, Vejo, Cerveteri. I found an accommodation just 30' outside Rome by local train in a beautiful location overlooking the lake Bracciano and very close the historic centre village. There are many small medieval villages in the area north of Rome with genuine traditions, local food and wine. I booked 20 days this October by a cottage by the lake Bracciano. I have not used the trains before, but I read it is very easy to do...I also see that "pickpockets, thieves" are numerous. I am trying to decide a base for my sightseeing. I plan to go around the early part of Oct. and stay through to mid-Nov. or so.
I've already been to London, Paris, Lyon, Dijon, Avignon, Nice, Cannes, Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Pisa, Florence, Rome, Venice, Assisi, Vatican, Lucerne, Sisikon, Alpnachstad, Vaduz, Vienna, Mondsee, Hopfgarten, Mauthausen, Berlin, Munich, Heidelberg, Schriescheim, Rhineland, Hamburg, Brussels, Amsterdam, Edam, Volendam, Zaanse Schans, and Monnickendam; would enjoy returning to some of the same cities and esp. Germany, but am also considering trekking into Poland to see Auschwitz, going to Budapest and Prague, perhaps even Cesky Krumlov, and Salzburg in Austria, maybe Graz and/or Linz too.
I plan to stay in hostels for budgetary reasons and do a lot of shopping for my meals in grocery stores (I'm big on fresh bread, good cheese, and tasty wine with chocolate to follow). However, a nice restaurant meal every now and then is not out of the question.
I aim to do a great deal of walking and will consider biking as well. I'd love to go hiking through the Swiss Alps as well. Any and all fitness-minded travel types may email me. I'm 39 but very much in shape, I drink rarely and smoke never and have never taken drugs except OTC and prescrip.
Advice on riding the rails vs. rental cars vs. the bus are greatly welcome.

Munich & Venice via train
Hi. I’m connecting Munich and Venice via train from 11 until 19 September, flying into Frankfurt and out of Milan. I’m into museums, architecture, history, street markets, and near constant movement. Not into bars, drugs, gourmet, or obvious tourist traps (unless, of course, the trap in question is a must see—the Coliseum in Rome comes to mind, as does Venice in general). I'm a 36 year old guy making my third trip to Europe, finally making my way to the Iberian Peninsula to check out Spain & Portugal. Doing rail pass / bus when more economical, some museums (Prado in Madrid, Dali Museum in Figueres), hitting the beach, check out the Alhambra, El Escorial, Segovia aqueducts, Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Gibraltar, who knows). "As far as tours, I do "all day" walking tours throughout Rome. For most newcomers to Rome, I do an ancient Rome tour which includes the Colosseo, Forum, Palatine Hill, Largo Argentina, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, and Spanish Steps - among other sites. I also do a Vatican day where we go to The Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's Basilica, St. Peter's Square, a market near the Vatican, and if time permitting, we head over to Piazza Navona. My tours go all day, usually from about 9 AM - 5 PM. The cost is €100 + any entry fees for the parties and myself".

May/June 2009 European traveler by train
I fly to Germany in May, take a train to Poland for 3 to 4 days and then back to Germany to fly to the middle east. Embarking on my first trip to Europe in May. I'm going to be flying into Athens, Greece and from there I hope to visit Macedonia, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, Ukraine, Hungary, Serbia, Bosnia, and other places. Then cut through central Europe onward to the western part of Europe (Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Italy, etc.) until I leave in either August or September. Therefore, sometimes I'm more outgoing and other times more quiet and reserved. But I'm always upfront and it's easy for me to communicate. Besides social anxiety, I consider myself drama-free. European Adventure Mid May to August 2009

Bike touring southern Franch/Italian Riviera to Venice.
Easy going 36 year old strait guy, looking for easy going buddy (m/f) with some cycling experience. Must me in good health and decent fitness level for long cycling trips.
I was born in Europe now living in US of A, planning to go bike touring/camping next year (may 2010) from Marseille to Cinque Terre using scenic and back roads across French and Italian Riviera and then crossing the mountains all the way up to Venice. Bikes and equipment travel with us as luggage from US to Marseilles.
I'm camping using a small individual tent, eating in small, cheap restaurants along the way. One night stops in Toulon, St Tropez, Monaco and other places if camping is allowed. I'm thinking to go easy paddling (not racing), covering 30-50 miles daily for 18-20 days or so, depending on weather and terrain.
Is anyone done it before? Pls share your experience! If everything's going as planned I intend to stop in Monaco and see the Formula Grand Prix race. (if possible). So, as you can see nothing is got to stay as schedule. Bottom line is to see and experience the beauty given to us by mother nature.

Hi! I'm going to be living in Stockholm this summer from May-July of 2009 and I'm looking to meet up with people already in Europe for weekend trips. Maybe this is not the right message board because it is not "backdoor" but I've traveled to Europe several times using Rick Steves guides. It has been great but now I am ready for something a bit more "upscale."
I am planning on taking a 14 day trip with a tour company to Eastern Europe next June. They go to Poland, Budapest, Vienna, and Prague. They have a great itinerary, go to all the best sites, stay at top hotels and go to the best restaurants. I've been on a few of their tours and although they are pricey, it is a good value for what you get.
I usually like to plan my own itinerary and go without a group, but I prefer not to do that in Eastern Europe. However, I will be planning a pre-trip to London for a few days and a post-trip to stay in Vienna a few extra days. Those stays will be very budget minded. I will follow Rick Steves recommended hotels for that part of the trip.
I am married but, alas, my husband does not share my passion for travel. I am looking for a female travel partner to share a room on this trip and thus cut down on the expensive single supplement fee. It also would be more fun to share the travel experience with someone.
I love to travel and like to see as much as possible on my trips.

Hi! I am a 22 year old female college graduate with a bad case of wanderlust. Next August I am going on 3-6 month trip (possibly longer) in Europe and parts of Asia. Central/Eastern Europe: Summer 2009
I will be spending 6-8 weeks in eastern Europe next summer (late June-early August), using Prague as my homebase with trips to Dresden, Berlin, Budapest, Eger, etc. Then will make my way to Northern Ireland (where I will be living after August 2009) via Croatia/Slovenia, Switzerland (Alps) and Paris. Would love to meet up with someone for part of the trip -- particularly when exploring Prague and Germany. 26/Female. Ideal travel partner would be spontaneous, laidback, on a budget (though willing to splurge when an amazing opportunity presents itself) and high energy.
I will be traveling by rail and bus (bus especially in Croatia and Slovenia) and staying mostly in hostels. I speak enough French to get by, am conversational in German and am learning Czech. Would be great if travel buddy was language-savvy.

I'm a 22 year old female, just graduated college, and am interested in travelling to Europe before I attend law school in Fall 2009.
