Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Ireland

Meet your guide and fellow tour members at our hotel at 5 p.m. After a group meeting, we'll enjoy a "Welcome to Ireland" dinner together, followed by an orientation walk through the heart of Dublin.

Light walking: 2–4 miles throughout the day on mostly level terrain. No bus. Sleep in Dublin.

Day 2: The Historic Heart of Dublin

This morning we'll take a walking tour through Dublin, including a stop at Trinity College for an illuminating look at the remarkable Book of Kells, a creative jolt that helped pull Europe out of the Dark Ages. We'll continue on, learning about the city's rich history, from the days of Viking raids to the hard centuries of British occupation to the proud and progressive city of today. You'll have the rest of the day free to feel the pulse of a city thriving with street poets and musicians.

Moderate walking: 2–6 miles throughout the day with some hills and stairs. No bus. Sleep in Dublin.

Day 3: Kilmainham Gaol and Ruins

On our way out of Dublin, we'll stop at Kilmainham Gaol and learn about its place in Ireland's stirring struggle for independence less than a century ago. Then we'll continue on to the green Plain of Tipperary, where we'll tour the ecclesiastical center that thrived in St. Patrick's time: the evocative ruins of the Rock of Cashel. Our day will end with dinner together in the picturesque harbor town of Kinsale.

Strenuous walking: 2–8 miles throughout the day with lots of hills, stairs, and uneven terrain. Bus: 5 hours. Sleep in Kinsale.

Day 4: Kinsale and Charles Fort

This morning we'll be treated to a walking tour that brings Kinsale's past to life, places its story in the wider sweep of history, and makes the stony sights much more than buildings. Inspired by all we've learned, we'll continue on to explore the massive and revolutionary (for its time) Charles Fort, which overlooks the harbor. You'll have the afternoon and evening free to make your own discoveries in Kinsale, known as Ireland's gourmet capital.

Strenuous walking: 2–8 miles throughout the day with lots of hills, stairs, and uneven terrain. Bus: ½ hour. Sleep in Kinsale.

Day 5: Killarney National Park and Dingle

Today we'll take a scenic drive along the forests (Ireland's largest), mountains, and lakes of Killarney National Park. Then we'll balance-off this peacefulness with a visit to a local sheep farm, marveling at its talented dogs in action. We'll end our day in Dingle, where we'll enjoy a whiskey tasting and dinner together in one of the country's best traditional music scenes.

Light walking: 2–4 miles throughout the day on mostly level terrain. Bus: 5 hours. Sleep in Dingle (group may be split between two B&Bs).

Day 6: Gaelic Heritage

It's a great day to experience some of Europe's wildest natural beauty and most ancient Christian sights. We'll start our day with a crystal cutting demonstration from a master craftsman, then hop aboard our bus with a local expert to follow the famous Slea Head Drive, our vote for the most beautiful road in Ireland. We'll stop to tour the strikingly designed Great Blasket Centre, where we'll get an intimate look at the language, literature, and daily life of a traditional Gaelic Blasket community. Tonight, we'll return to Dingle for as much dancing and singing with new friends as we can handle.

Moderate walking: 2–6 miles throughout the day with some hills and stairs. Bus: 3 hours. Sleep in Dingle.

Day 7: Roam the Dingle Peninsula

Today is all yours…free on the Dingle Peninsula. Take a long walk along the local paths and lanes, rent a bicycle and pedal the scenic 30-mile Dingle Loop, sail for the day to the rugged Blasket Islands, or simply savor your generous Irish breakfast and hang out in town.

Light to strenuous walking (your choice). No bus. Sleep in Dingle.

Day 8: Cliffs of Moher and the Burren

This morning we'll drive through County Clare to the dramatic Cliffs of Moher, where you'll find yourself leaning into the wind and teetering on the very edge of Europe more than 600 feet above the churning waters of the North Atlantic. Farther up the road, we'll explore the rocky moonscape of the Burren to learn about its unique ecosystem and hardy prehistoric residents. Tonight we'll share dinner together in Galway.

Moderate walking: 2–6 miles throughout the day with some hills and stairs. Bus: 5 hours. Sleep in Galway.

Day 9: Galway and the Aran Islands

This morning we'll hop aboard a ferry bound for the stark beauty of Inishmore, the largest of the Aran Islands. There you can join your guide for a minibus tour 'round this dramatic island, including the site of its ancient, cliff-hanging Celtic fortress, Dun Aengus. Or, you'll have plenty of time to set out on foot, hire a pony cart, or pedal a bike to explore this windswept island on your own.

Light to strenuous walking (your choice). Boat: 2 hours. Bus: 2 hours. Sleep in Galway.

Day 10: Connemara Countryside

Today we'll drive through the Connemara region, enjoying the beautiful Irish countryside. We'll stop in the charming town of Cong (where Maureen O'Hara and John Wayne filmed The Quiet Man in 1951), stroll through the picturesque abbey ruins, and visit the School of Falconry at Ashford Castle. Then we'll drive north to County Mayo and Westport, where we'll settle in for the evening.

Moderate walking: 2–6 miles throughout the day with some hills and stairs. Bus: 4 hours. Sleep in Westport.

Day 11: To Northern Ireland

We'll seamlessly cross into Northern Ireland today. In Derry, a local guide will take us on a tour of the town, sharing stories about "the Troubles" and the infamous "Bloody Sunday" of 1972. Then we'll drive on to the nostalgic seaside resort of Portrush, where we'll have dinner together.

Moderate walking: 2–6 miles throughout the day with some hills and stairs. Bus: 5 hours. Sleep in Portrush.

Day 12: Antrim Coast

Today we'll explore Northern Ireland's spectacular Antrim Coast, marveling at the bizarre basalt columns and local legends of the Giant's Causeway. Then we're off to visit the romantic ruins of Dunluce Castle, perched precariously on a clifftop overlooking the North Atlantic. We'll explore the broken castle while enjoying the fine views and great seabird-watching before continuing on to Belfast.

Strenuous walking: 2–8 miles throughout the day with lots of hills, stairs, and uneven terrain. Bus: 4 hours. Sleep in Belfast.

Day 13: Belfast and the Titanic

This morning we'll begin our day at the Titanic Belfast visitor experience, located on the very site where the great ship was built. After lunch, we'll join a local guide for a walking tour of historic Belfast. Then we'll board our coach for a rolling tour that takes us along reminders of the past decades' Troubles, including the striking political murals of Shankill and Falls Road. The rest of the afternoon is yours to explore more of Belfast. Tonight we'll kick up our heels at a tasty farewell supper together, where we'll share travel memories and toast new friends. Sláinte!

Light walking: 2–4 miles throughout the day on mostly level terrain. Bus: 3 hours. Sleep in Belfast.

Day 14: Tour Over After Breakfast

Breakfast is provided, but there are no group activities today. You can fly out of Belfast or Dublin's handy airports. For those not ready to return home yet, both cities are a great jumping off point to Paris, London, Amsterdam, and many other exciting destinations. Your guide will help you with any post-tour planning, leaving you well prepared for the road ahead. Slán leat!

There was time at every stop for some free time. The dinners and entertainment were outstanding! Our bus driver, Steven, was a fantastic driver and a great addition to our tour!!

This tour far exceeded my expectations. The quality of the guides, the lodgings, and the itinerary were outstanding for the price. I felt as if we really saw and learned as much as is possible in a 2 week period.

I LOVED my experience with this tour. It was sooooo good that i kept asking those who've done other tours if all Rick Steve tours were like this. The people on the tour were exceptional and Pascal, our guide, was beyond exceptional. After having been in lockdown in what feels like years, this was a fantastic way to get back out there, visiting places, making new friends and traveling. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone. I can't wait to go back to Ireland!

Favorite "WOW" moment

"The views, scenery, locals and friends i made on the tour - as well as our guide...just about everything was a wow! BUT, if i had to pick one thing i would say Pascal, our guide was phenomenal. I loved his stories, in particular when he cracked himself up before he could finish them on the tour. He had the bus laughing just WAITING for his story even before it began. "

The tour of Ireland was amazing. We got to see several different locations and I cannot imagine having a better guide than Pascal. He kept us on track and always prepared us for the next stop. He was a great storyteller and shared a lot of his own personal experiences with the location. The longer bus rides were a mix of history, storytelling and music from or about the area that we were in. Overall, a great experience. A great mix of culture, tourism and Irish history!

Favorite "WOW" moment

"This is a hard one as there were so many. As an avid hiker, I loved the hiking and the area around Dingle. Hiking up to the Eask Tower and the views from that location were amazing. I also loved the way that the farmland was divided into sections using the rock walls. It made for some great pics. I also have to mention the sheep dog demonstration. I loved hearing the history and legends of each area was very interesting. I loved the views from the mountain lakes and how calming that felt."

I thought the tour was well thought out and organized for busy days. I felt for the amount of ground we covered we did get a reasonable amount of free time. Booking with Rick Steves for a peak season (and first time) visit to Ireland removed the majority of logistic and busy work of "travelling" and allowed me to focus on "experiencing" Irish culture, history, food and beauty of Ireland and its welcoming people. Our lead tour guide Brian, assistant guide Etalka, and driver Allan were top notch. I especially enjoyed the Rick Steves model of paying upfront and no extra tipping fees or reliance of sales of merchandise.

The Ireland tour was well planned from beginning to end. Our guide, Lynn Corken, was informative, organized, and made the trip carefree holiday for my husband and me. The local guides enhanced the Ireland experience with their wealth of knowledge about the history and tour of sites within each particular city/town.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"It is hard to identify a favorite moment as there were so many. I enjoyed visiting the sheep farm to see the dogs in action and watch the sheep being shorn. The dinner and music at Milltown in Dingle was a relaxing highlight to an adventurous day. The Cliffs of Moher, Celtic Fortress Dun Aengus, Ashford Castle, Giant's Causeway, and Dunluce Castle were amongst my favorite scenic sites. I really enjoyed the time I spent with the tour group. Unfortunately, I tested positive for Covid on day 7 of 14, and had to leave the group. This led me to feeling a bit abandoned in Dingle, a fairly remote town with limited local resources. Luckily, my symptoms were mild, like a cold, so I was able to manage getting back to Dublin on my own. I hesitate to think what would have happened had I been more ill.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"My tour included Dublin, Kinsale, Dingle, and points in-between. I was very impressed with the knowledge and desire to educate exhibited by all the local guides, to include the guides at the government-run locations, like the jail in Dublin, the rock of Cashel, etc. Just excellent!"

We enjoyed an interesting, educational and fun tour of some of the most beautiful parts of Ireland. Despite the rain, everyday was one to remember. Ireland’s history is also part of our story, having ancestors that were affected by the famine and ended up in Portland, Oregon. The suffering and sacrifices of previous generations is even better appreciated now. The Irish people were so friendly and hospitable. We loved it!

Favorite "WOW" moment

"Too many ! One of our favorites was our time in Dingle and attending a traditional folk concert of musicians from the Blasket Islands at St. James church. We had visited the Blasket Centre that day! Really good - not quite as amazing as the Scotland tour we finished just before starting the Ireland tour. Our tour guides (and all of our guides were amazing). Fellow travelers mostly good - group did not gel as quickly as Scotland tour group. Guide Dara was very good. Dingle Benners hotel toilet so low flow hardly flushed. Wished we had gone from Leenaum to Westport the short way instead of long route. More time in Westport & less time on bus. Loved Irish dance/singing on last night arranged by Dara. Our first Rick Steves tour and it exceeded expectations. The schedule was very well thought out to balance scheduled time and free time. Our tour guide was exceptional. He managed to sense the groups needs for talking, stories, music and quiet while on the bus. I came away excited to explore more areas of Europe.

Unfortunately I got Covid and had to exit the tour several days early, but I enjoyed the first part a lot. Our tour guide, Paul, was very knowledgeable and amusing, and all of the local tour guides were great as well. I can see why many people keep coming back to Rick Steves' tours.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"I'm not sure there was just one. I loved seeing the Rock of Cashel, the Blasket Island Center, and the Slea Head Loop Drive; loved the sheepdog/sheep demonstration and shearing; and loved the personal concert in Dingle, as well as the session at Dalton's pub in Kinsale. I know that I missed a lot because I did not get to continue on to Northern Ireland. Unfortunately our timing at the Cliffs of Moher was off, as it was very foggy and rainy, but that would have been great in better weather."

Without the knowledge of Paul it would have been just another bus ride. I like how we had group walks with local guides that added that extra layer of experience and knowledge. The food was good and the service was great. I realize that some of the hotels the windows don't open all the way for safety and security but 2 ", makes for a restless night. I'm not the only one who talked about this. Your guidebook is fantastic, we always arrive early and stay later gives us way to cover the spots mised

This was our (my husband and I) very first group tour of any kind, and we really didn’t know how we would feel traveling with others. I came away with a very positive experience. I loved being able to cover all the coast of Ireland and see and experience so much without the two of us having to drive all that distance. We got to relax on the bus while our amazing driver, Alan, drove us to where we needed to be next. Our tour guide, Paul, was fabulous. He made the trip fun and informative.

Lynn was an amazing tour guide and made every second of the entire tour enjoyable and informative. The tour itself was characterized with a mix of historical sites, points of local interest, and cultural experiences. Overall, this tour was a joy to be involved in every day for two weeks.

"My "wow" moment would be our tour of Kilmainham Gaol in Dublin. This site served to set the stage for the oftentimes complicated political history of the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Without this introduction, I believe it would be hard to contextualize and comprehend the history of the two countries. Additionally, the provided guide for the tour was very knowledgable and personable."

This was a wonderful overview of Ireland -- land, people, and history past and present. Our tour leader was extremely knowledgeable and our coach driver was fantastic. I was extremely impressed by the logistics and organization of the tour as well as the level of effort and approachability of the tour guide. Overall excellent historical presentations: I now "understand" Ireland. I felt the tour presented a far more genuine picture of Ireland than might have been presented. Shopping opportunities were available, but I did not feel I was being led to "fleecing stations" I expected far more free time at more convenient hours than what I actually experienced.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"My favorite meal of the entire tour was sitting in a little cafe on the Aran Islands before we walked to Dun Angus fort. My second RS Ireland tour. Outstanding guide with Joe Burke. He made it easy to go with the flow and always be curious and flexible. Exceptional guide, wonderful travel companions. The itinerary was well-paced, although I could have stayed longer everywhere we went—so much more to see and do! Appreciated the small detours we made to soak up even more of Ireland’s beauty and history. Joe especially made the trip memorable and fun—he also went out of his way to assist me with a medical issue. Thank you Joe! It was great to see Ireland prospering without losing her unique charm and character. Unforgettable trip!

We found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow…it was our tour guide Lolly! The love and pride she has for her homeland was clear. Lolly’s knowledge of the thousands of years of history of the whole island and every place we visited was amazing. She taught us how to make a proper Irish coffee, some new words (craic, snargle, dog’s dinner) and told the best Paddy and Mick jokes. She introduced us to beautiful Irish music, and oatmeal with whiskey. Bus driver Steven was equally amazing!

The itinerary is thoughtfully designed to capture Ireland’s natural beauty and rich history. Declan and the local guides were fantastic at explaining and connecting the historical significance of the places we visited. Unfortunately, the accommodations were a real low for us. Comfortable, informative, surprising, and inspiring would be words to describe my days. I liked the mixing of experiences we were given. We walked, rode, heard stories, were given the challenge of writing, and a pace that every two hours brought a new site or a happy half hour. This was my first tour so I don't have much experience, but I was really impressed with our tour guide and how smoothly everything went. Our guide was very personable and kept us on time and knew when to get us through some of the sites. The history that was given about Ireland at each place seemed to build upon itself and that tied all the destinations together as our trip progressed. It was a thoroughly wonderful trip.

"There were many ''wow" moments so many could be named, but the first to come to my mind, which was unexpected, was the exposure to Irish dance and music. I'd listen to tour guide Lolly read the dictionary all day long. Fortunately, she had better and more interesting material to convey! Bonus! The Ireland tour was outstanding and having Lolly for a guide was the icing on the cake. Everything was fun, exciting, interesting, informative. We laughed on the bus, listened in rapt attention to local tour guides, and believed almost every story Lolly told!! A variety of activities, all coordinated with whatever we were seeing. Amazing, outstanding tour

Favorite "WOW" moment

"The moment that stands out for me was Lolly's 1 hour explanation of the 400 years of Irish history. I was a history minor in college and she hands-down beat every great professor I had in making history almost come to life and connect to the rest of the world at the time. I have such understanding of Irish psyche now. So appreciative of that one hour on the bus. Will never forget!"

Ireland is awesome. Wonderful guide; great driver; good group of fellow travelers on the bus; hotels and group dinners were upgrades from the Heart of Ireland tour I went on in October 2019 (they weren’t bad then but these were better); and a nicely balanced mix of city, nature, history, culture and music. We were also fortunate to enjoy clear weather but for one afternoon of rain in Dingle (a pub is always a good place to stay dry) and Dingle is a treasure.

This was my fifth Rick Steves tour, and it was by far my favorite. Our outstanding guide Susie Millar is from Belfast, and she gave us a personal and heart-felt tour of her beautiful country. We traveled to Ireland because we love Irish traditional music, and we were hoping to experience many live performances. Our tour included two private performances by Irish musicians for our group. Good coverage of Ireland. Susie was a good guide. Good group of fellow travelers. However, 29 is way too large a group. This was our 4th RS tour. Our first RS tour had 24, and I thought that was plenty! We were just on an OATS tour with just 13 people (could have been a max of 16) and I was almost apologetic telling them how many were on a RS tour. I think the buddy system is a great system - way better the guide counting people.

Very good experience for the most part. Good mix of structured activities and free time. Two minor disappointments probably based on my expectations from the Rick Steves guidebooks. 1. The Burren portion of the trip was a major disappointment. We did not see any neolithic sites. This tour provided a great overview of Ireland and its history/people. During our bus rides, our guide Dara expertly wove the islands history with topical music selections (mostly Irish artists). The local guides (in Dublin, Kinsale, Dingle and Belfast) provided more context and offered additional reading/viewing selections. The scenery was just so beautiful and green! I really enjoyed the tour overall and would recommend it to anyone.

Ireland is just as they say “50 shades of green”. The tour did not disappoint at all. The other members of the tour were all very nice and fun to be with, which helped make this tour an all around positive experience. Since being home I have had friends and family asked me if would take this tour again and YES is my answer.

Great tour, everything went well, and I felt like I got to know Ireland. The local guides were excellent, and I learned a lot of history. Our guide Lolly was exceptional, went above and beyond to be sure we were all having fun. Lolly has unlimited energy and knowledge! I always liked the days that incorporated little hikes. The food was good and people friendly. I felt like it was money well spent and would have been a challenge to do on my own. I also appreciated the smaller group.

It was amazing. Learned so much about Ireland that I didn’t know before. Didn’t really have to lift a finger, everything was taken care of, and planned out. So nice. Accommodations were Gucci compared to what I expected. Tour guide Lolly made us feel like we were in for a wee visit to her house. Her pride of her country shined through. Our tour guide, Lolly Spence, began to weave the people in our group together from the first introduction. Lolly created an overall wonderful experience for us all, while somehow managing to make the tour uniquely special for each individual in our group. The sights, the history, the stories, the music -- all exceeded my expectations. We had wonderful food and accommodation throughout. Our driver, Mark, was a wizard behind the wheel of our bus. What wonderful memories I have!

This was our 5th tour and it was such an outstanding experience, all due to our guide Lolly Spence. I can’t imagine it going any better. She truly made magic happen for us all. This was my second Best of Ireland tour so there weren't the 'surprises' of a first time. Ireland remains beautiful with its green- and blue-scapes, friendly and helpful people, and rich history. Paul, the guide was outstanding in difficult circumstances. Many of the sights we went to, in particular the cliffs of moher and the giants causeway were literally overrun by bus after bus of tourists. I would hate to see the high season. I enjoyed the more intimate, private tours, especially Barry in Kinsale as well as Paul's personal insights. I really enjoyed Dingle and the Falconry school. Hotels were fair to very good. Provided meals were all excellent. Not a big fan of the COVID policy.

There were unusual activities (sheep herder training and the hawk flying activity) which I enjoyed very much although I didn't think I would like it as much as I did when I read about it on the agenda. I also enjoyed the variety of places we went and learned much about the history.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"The scenery and expertise of the bus driver. I certainly wouldn't feel that comfortable driving on some of the roads we went on."

Ireland was our fifth Rick Steves tour and it did not disappoint! What a wonderful way to visit this beautiful country and learn so much about its fascinating history, amazing culture and the friendly Irish people. All of the towns we visited were such a delight. The drive in between each was spectacular and our driver Stephen was fantastic. Lolly, our guide, was the best! She’s smart and witty and kept us entertained with the right mix of her vast knowledge of Irish history, music and folklore.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"This entire tour was a “wow” for me from the start. Seeing, experiencing, tasting Ireland was a “wow”. Watching 5-time World Champion David Geaney perform at the Dingle Pub was a “wow”. Drinking Irish coffee at Kehoes Pub in Dublin was a “wow”. Staying in Dingle at Castlewood House and enjoying their wonderful porridge was a “wow”. However, I think the day along the Antrim Coast was my favorite “wow” moment. The Dunluce Castle and the Giant’s Causeway were both an exceptional “wow” for me."

I enjoyed the tour very much. This was our 5th RS tour and probably the 2nd best behind the Best of Italy. The locations were great, but our tour guide, Lolly Spence, was excellent and is the primary reason for the outstanding tour. She was very knowable on the Irish history, witty, fun, a great story teller and super organized. Her leadership, historical/cultural knowledge and communication skills made each location much more interesting. RS's format for the Ireland tour is very good.

"On this trip, there was not a single moment significantly "wow" above all others. There were many wows. I'll name the top three: The ride around the Dingle Peninsula, walking around on those bizarre basalt formations at the Giant's Causeway, watching 5-times Word Champion Irish dancer, David Geaney, perform at the Dingle Pub "

The tour was well-planned, our guide (Lolly) was awesome, our driver (Stephen) navigated superbly, fellow travelers were friendly, and Ireland was more beautiful than published photos. We came away with a much deeper appreciation of the Irish people and their land, culture, history, and political issues. The mixture of perspectives provided by our guide, local guides, and the sites visited provided both broad and deep insights. This was our first Rick Steves Tour; we look forward to another.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"The Giant's Causeway captured the essence of all that was wonderful in Ireland: the scenery, the land, the cliffs, the wind, the green hills, the rolling pastures, the endless ocean, the wild waves. And along the paths, everyone seemed enthralled. "

This tour was so much fun. It was full of things to do and places to see. There was enough free time to do your own thing. The food was amazing. It was a great experience.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"The cliffs of Moher and the Giant’s Causeway were spectacular, but the ocean walk around Portrush was my favorite. It wasn’t a group event and done on our own time, but it was so beautiful."

The Ireland trip was fantastic. Great people who are interesting, interested, kind, and fun take Rick Steves trips. As a solo traveler, I was embraced by the entire group. The guides at each of the sites and towns are passionate, brilliant individuals, happy to share their stories. We learned about Ireland's history as we traveled through this beautiful country. Our visits allowed us to connect with the culture and people of the land.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"The Giant's Causeway was the coolest thing I have ever seen. Hearing our guide, Suzie's personal . Titanic story had many of us in tears. It was amazing to have such a knowledgeable, experienced guide lead on us on our journey. The Dublin Guide Donnel was amazing and passionate as he shard Irish History. Barry in Kinsale was captivating. The visit to the school of falconry which afforded us all with the opportunity to have a hawk land on our hands was a once in a lifetime experience."

This was my first Rick Steves Tour and I enjoyed every minute. Meeting new people, new places, getting rained on, sampling Whiskey, touring Guinness Storehouse, beautiful landscapes, Castles, Forts, Prisons, Stainless Windows in Churchs, visiting an Owl and watched a Falcon fly then land on my arm. Susie is a fantastic guide, Martin an experienced and friendly driver. All the guides were great. Traveling as a single I was welcomed into the group and never felt left out!!

Favorite "WOW" moment

"My WOW moment would be the Town Of Dingle. Experienced Dingle Food Festival with bands performing in the streets, food, wine and whiskey tasting, Took a hike to the Lighthouse on the coast, people swimming in Dingle Bay, watched etching demonstration at Dingle Crystals factory. So many more experiences, all of them had their WOW Moments. "

We had a real fun group. Susie Millar was a wonderful leader and led with grace, humor and a depth of knowledge of history, culture and a great use of local guides. The trip was well broken up each day, but filled with interesting stops, great meals and many opportunities for individual explorations.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"Our favorite wild moment came in Dingle when my wife asked Susie if she knew where the Dingle Lighthouse was. She has some family history of caretaker of the lighthouse in the 1880s. Susie just lit up and said not only do I know where it is but I'll show you how to get there and make sure we have time to get you there. We were able to walk there from our hotel and several other guests joined us and we're just as thrilled as we were to be able to step back 160 years and enjoy a piece of our histo"

When To Go & Weather

Any time between April and October is a good time to visit Ireland. However, the months of April, May, September, and October are best for offering fewer crowds, mild weather, and the full range of tourist fun. Summers come with longer days and better (yet still mild) weather, but larger crowds, which mostly affect Dublin.

Hotels & Flights

Tour Hotels

In case you wish to book pre- or post-tour hotel accommodations, the contact information for the tour's first and last hotels is included in your tour confirmation email, as well as in the Itinerary section of your tour account. One month prior to the tour departure, you'll find the directions to your first tour hotel and a complete list of hotels where we'll be staying in the Documents section of your tour account.

Flights

Our tours don't include airfare, so your flight arrangements are completely up to you.

Most tour members arrange to fly in and out of Dublin (DUB). If you prefer to fly out of Belfast (BFS), select "multicity" on flight-booking websites. The coach from Belfast direct to Dublin Airport takes about two hours and departs hourly 24 hours a day. Your guide can help you book it when you arrive.

We suggest arriving a day or two before your tour begins to allow ample time to get over jet lag and be well-rested for the first few days of your tour. For more information about transportation options for getting to and from your tour, see your Rick Steves Ireland guidebook.
