Day 1: Welcome to Sweden

We'll meet at our Stockholm hotel at 4 p.m. for a Välkomna till Skandinavia get-together, followed by dinner and an orientation walk around our neighborhood. Sleep in Stockholm (2 nights). No bus. Walking: light.

Day 2: Stockholm's Old City and the Vasa

This morning we'll enjoy a walking tour through the cobbled alleyways of Stockholm's Gamla Stan (Old City), learning about its historic Stortorget Square, cathedral, and Royal Palace. After free time for lunch, we'll board a boat and cross the harbor to visit the Vasa Museum, where we'll marvel at the remains of the 200-foot warship Vasa, which sank here on her maiden voyage nearly 400 years ago. Your late afternoon is free to explore more of this cosmopolitan city. Boat: ½ hour. No bus. Walking: strenuous.

Day 3: Modern Stockholm and Cozy Kalmar

This morning we'll tour Stockholm's City Hall, home of the Nobel Prize banquet and striking mosaic murals celebrating humanism and the ideal of people working together in community. Then, after stopping along the Göta Canal for a lunch break, we'll drive through beautiful birch forests on our way to the seafaring, bridge-and-water-laced town of Kalmar, where we'll sleep (1 night). Bus: 6 hours. Walking: light.

Day 4: Kalmar Castle and Copenhagen

Today we'll explore what may be Sweden's most striking, historically significant building: bay-and-moat-ringed Kalmar Castle. As we tour the castle's interior and beautiful grounds, we'll learn about Sweden's 16th-century struggle for independence from the Danes. Then, to reach Copenhagen, we'll drive across the awe-inspiring five-mile Öresund bridge and tunnel connecting Sweden and Denmark. We'll get to know our neighborhood by strolling up to the lively Strøget pedestrian center, followed by dinner together. Sleep in Copenhagen (2 nights). Bus: 5 hours. Walking: moderate.

Day 5: Playful and Progressive Copenhagen

This morning we'll dive into the sights and sounds of Copenhagen's historical center on a walking tour with a local guide. The rest of your day is free to enjoy Europe's best people-watching on the Strøget, tour the Renaissance Rosenborg Castle, visit the fanciful Tivoli Gardens, or experience the counterculture of Christiania. No bus. Walking: moderate.

Day 6: Viking Ships and Ærø Island Charms

After breakfast we'll drive to Roskilde to prowl through the evocative Viking Ship Museum, where we'll learn about the rough-and-tumble, yet surprisingly sophisticated, Viking culture of a thousand years ago. We'll also visit Denmark's venerable Roskilde Cathedral, the resting place of 38 kings and queens of Denmark, and the first Gothic church ever built of brick. Then a scenic ferry ride will take us to the nostalgic little island of Ærø and the old windjammer port of Ærøskøbing. Tonight we'll enjoy a tour of the Old Merchants' Court and atraditional Danish feast together. Sleep on Ærø (2 nights; groups may be split between two B&Bs). Boat: 1½ hours. Bus: 4 hours. Walking: light.

Day 7: All Day to Explore Ærø Island

You'll have the morning free to relax and savor this epitome of small-town Denmark, or get Ærø-dynamic and pedal a rented bike past thatched cottages, tidy farms, and windswept bluffs. We'll regroup just before noon for a bus tour of the island, stopping en route to enjoy a tasty smørrebrød lunch together. We'll return to Ærøskøbing where you'll be free for dinner and the rest of the evening. The pub by the harbor is a fun place to meet the locals. Bus: 3 hours. Walking: light to strenuous (your choice).

Day 8: Overnight Ferry to Oslo

Today we'll drive back to Copenhagen. After some free time for lunch, we'll hop aboard an overnight ferry for Oslo. It's a big boat; choose to dine at a buffet fit for a Viking or grab something smaller at the ship's café. After dinner, you can dance the night away in the nightclub, linger in the tax-free shop, or enjoy the scenery as we cruise to Norway in style. Sleep on ferry (1 night). Boat: 18 hours. Bus: 3 hours. Walking: light.

Day 9: Historic and Artistic Oslo

We'll greet the sun as we glide up the Oslofjord — one of the most scenic parts of our tour — and into Norway's capital. Once ashore, we'll take a walking tour around the harbor and through the heart of Oslo, learning about Norway's history and politics along the way. With your Oslo Pass, you'll have plenty of free time to visit the Norwegian Resistance Museum, or your choice of the city's other fine museums. Before tonight's dinner, we'll gather for a visit to Frogner Park, home to Gustav Vigeland's whimsical, lifelike sculptures. Sleep in Oslo (2 nights). Bus: 1 hour. Walking: moderate.

Day 10: Norway's Seafaring Past

Today we'll cruise across the harbor to Bygdøy peninsula for a treasure trove of nautical history. We'll visit the Viking Ship Museum to learn about Scandinavia's best collection of Viking vessels and artifacts. Nearby, you'll also have time to see the impressive Maritime Museum — as well as special museums devoted to the innovative Fram polar explorer and the ocean-crossing rafts of adventurer Thor Heyerdahl (Kon-Tiki and Ra II). Inspired by Norway's seafaring history, you'll be free to sail back to Oslo's harbor. From there, armed with your Oslo Pass (giving you free admission to most museums and public transportation), you'll have the rest of your afternoon and evening free in this vibrant city. Boat: ½ hour. No bus. Walking: moderate.

Day 11: Maihaugen and Giant's Country

Driving northwest from Oslo, today we'll learn about daily Norwegian life and traditions. We'll tour the beautifully situated Maihaugen Open-Air Folk Museum, including its array of sod-roofed houses and remarkable 12th-century stave church, constructed entirely from wood. After a scenic afternoon drive through farmland and forests, we'll settle into our rustic, creaky mountain hotel, located in the heart of Giant's Country. We'll share a traditional dinner together, and sleep in the Jotunheimen Mountains (1 night). Bus: 6 hours. Walking: light.

Day 12: Fjord Country and Bergen

Make sure your camera is charged-up: today is scenery day! After breakfast our bus will climb the highest road in northern Europe (4,600 ft.) to the windswept Jotunheimen for a panorama of glittering snow and 8,100-foot peaks. We'll then take a dramatic corkscrew-drive down to sea level and hop aboard a ferry for a 2½-hour scenic Sognefjord cruise between cliffs and waterfalls (replicating the fjord cruise portion of the "Norway in a Nutshell" route). We'll enjoy lunch on the ferry then we're back aboard our bus for one more scenic stretch of highway before you're free for dinner and the rest of the evening in Bergen, where we'll sleep (2 nights). Boat: 2½ hours. Bus: 6 hours. Walking: light.

Day 13: All Day in Charming Bergen

A local guide will walk us through the salty history of this seafaring town, starting at the Bryggens Museum and through the enchanting old Hanseatic wharf area, where wooden warehouses lean together and recall their glory days as a center of North Atlantic trade. To cap off our morning, we'll ride the funicular to the top of Mount Fløyen for thrilling views of Bergen, islands, and fjords. The rest of your afternoon is free to do some hiking, explore more of Bergen, or buy one of those hand-knit wool sweaters that caught your eye back at the wharf. This evening we'll gather for a hearty Norwegian feast to share travel memories and toast new friends. Skål! No bus. Walking: moderate.

Day 14: Tour Over After Breakfast

Breakfast is provided, but there are no group activities today. Those returning home can catch a short flight from Bergen to Copenhagen, London, or other European cities for your direct flight home. Farvel!

Itinerary specifics subject to change.

Physical Demands

Our tours are physically active! It's an essential part of the Rick Steves tour experience. On our Best of Scandinavia in 14 Days tour — among other things — you'll need to happily…

  1. Carry/roll your luggage over uneven pavement (possibly several blocks) and up stairways to reach your hotel, then up several flights of stairs to reach your room.
  2. Be on your feet, walking and standing for up to three hours, indoors and outdoors, in all weather conditions.
  3. Sleep with street noise and no (or weak) air conditioning.
  4. After orientation and transportation lessons, be able to navigate towns and cities on your own.
  5. Sleep in a cabin with no window on the overnight ship from Copenhagen to Oslo.
  6. Be content with sharing bathroom facilities at your Ærø B&B.

Wonderful, loved to country and had the right balance of free time and guided time. Ylva was the best. The country was beautiful and their philosophy on life and conservation was so far ahead of the US. When we got home, we stayed overnight in a hotel, and the continental breakfast was a dismal failure compared to what we got used to.

Where to begin?!? Well, what a fabulous vacation with such a great group of travellers. A real pleasure to meet and spend time with in this beautiful part of Europe. Our guide, Laurel, was so much fun and got us to all our destinations without a hitch. Of course some credit has to go to our driver, Jonas! They were a great team! Seeing the cities along with all the beautiful countryside was a perfect introduction to Scandinavia. If you'v ever thought to go - don't wait!

Great Tour Guide, Great group of people. We had many long travel days (scheduled breaks every 2 hours was a good idea). How to improve challenge (you know already): What activity can be done to mask a bathroom breaks while traveling. The ice cream breaks for 45-70 minutes were a good example. Too bad not always an option when traveling many miles.

Positive, helpful, informative Laurel! She felt like "one of us" rather than "the leader". Our tour group was exceptionally compatible. I gained a nice balance of new knowledge and fun experiences. Nice balance of tour time and alone time for exploration and rest. The bus was comfortable but I wish we had WiFi in every country we visit. Johan was a conscientious driver. I loved visiting the tour guides apartment in Old Town Stockholm. I loved Aero Island & cycling!

My overall tour experience is "exceeded expectations". Fantastic tour guide & local guides. I was leery of signing up for a "guided tour", as I like to do lots of walking & exploration following Rick Steves guidebooks. This trip had the perfect balance of guided/tours and "free time". Well planned trip with a beautiful variety of locations & adventures.

Great tour. Our guide Pal was knowledgeable, helpful and always cheerful. All our local guides were the same. Everyone had a great sense of humor. Kept our group positive. Like the progression from Stockholm south to Copenhagen, Aero; the night aboard the ship; ferry down the fjord and ending in Bergan. Gave a great sense of history for all three countries. Learning the political systems in each country, cultures, environmental solutions, social programs and architecture.

This was a wonderful tour! I had high expectations and they were exceeded :) This was my second Rick Steves tour and it was just as great as the first, so I am sold. I really liked the itinerary - Stockholm was a great place to start as there was plenty to do when we arrived a day early. I loved all 3 countries, and having Aero in the middle and ending in Norway really felt like the perfect flow. I felt really lucky to have Pal as our guide, and also to have such fantastic tour members.

This was the best trip of our lives!! We love Scandanavia, our guide - Pol \ and the Rick Steves' tour experience! It was the perfect mixture of guided time, with experts, and free time, with suggestions. We got to know the culture - music, food, politics, so much more than when we travel on our own. We ate foods I would never try on my own, and it was good! And I do believe we had the best tour guide in Pol Johansen that Rick Steves' has.

This was my 5th Rick Steve,s tour all have been very enjoyable. I was really looking forward to Sweden I'm from Minnesota lots of Swedes and Norwegians in our state although I'm German. Our guide Gabriella was fantastic the history we learned from her and the personal attention she gave each of us with time schedules and museums unbelievable. There was 28 of us and we all bonded lunches together dinners together and shared information no grumps as Rick would say.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"The Fjord of Norway were a WOW it is the most beautiful country seen more waterfalls than I had ever hoped to see in a life time. Switzerland is beautiful but Norway is lush and green and so planted friendly the U.S. can only hope to achieve that some day and I'm not even all on board with climate change but Norway will sell you on it. Copenhagen was the other wow. I loved Sweden it met my expectations its what I expected. But Norway just WOW."

Really enjoyed the tour. Well organized, great guide and bus driver. The meals we shared together, including the picnics, were fun. Restaurants were well chosen, not overwhelmed by our crowd and we never felt rushed. Very nice balance of time together and time on our own to pursue our interests. Providing tickets, transit passes helped make our time more enjoyable.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"While I enjoyed the cities and seeing the ships in various museums my favorite time was the country time. Days 11 and 12 in the Norwegian country side marveling at the mountains and the waterfalls. At one point on the Sognefjord cruise I realized that I could see eight different waterfalls from where I was standing. Some of them were small but they were falling water. It filled me with awe."

This was our second Rick tour. Did Ireland last year. Both trips were wonderful. Ylva, our Scandinavian guide was very personable, informative and knowledgeable about culture, history and politics. Having never been to this part of the world before, my knowledge of the region was quite limited. We did stay within the city center areas of four major Scandinavian cities so that we could explore the rich history, culture and dynamics of each. However there was also a pleasurable blend of non big city stays that provided balance with their rural settings. The stay at Pension 44 with Susanne as a host was awesome. The over night stay on the ferry ride added something special. Using the Rick Steves guide, tearing out the pages, we used our free time to further explore each area.

My wife and I had mixed feelings about a tour. In the past, when we traveled, we used Rick Steves' books to plan our own travel, made our own reservations, rented a car and went on our own schedule to see what we wanted to see. This was our first tour, and we were a bit nervous about being with a group, being on someone else's timetable, and going where someone else wanted us to go. Of course there are trade-offs, but we thoroughly enjoyed our Rick Steves' tour.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"There were too many to count. Scandinavia is so beautiful, the people were so nice, and everything was easy. We just showed up. I must say that this Rick Steves' tour really took care of us. In addition to an amazing tour guide, we had an exceptional bus driver who was just one of the group. We stayed in very nice hotels, ate at great restaurants. They could have tried to cut corners to enhance profits, but that didn't happen. It was top drawer all the way."

I enjoyed the tour immensely and learned a lot about some countries whose socio-political systems we in the US should study seriously. This was just an incredible trip, filled with one memorable experience after another. Of course, the Norway Fjords were a magnificent sight to behold and one that I will always cherish, but there were so many delightful surprises throughout the trip. I especially enjoyed the quaint shops and lovely hotel stay on Aero Island, seeing the beauty of Copenhagen and the enthusiastic bikers, seeing the Viking vessels, the mountain retreat stay surrounded by gorgeous views, and the sculpture gardens.

"Next to the Norway Fjords which simply have to be seen to be believed... a particular favorite was the tour of the Sculpture Gardens -- highlighted by the passionate narration of our guide, Asa. A very moving experience. Our guide Asa made this very active trip an incredible journey for all of us. Her love, knowledge, and passion for her country clearly shown through the entire experience and her enthusiasm was contagious. Overall, a great tour!"

Exceeded all expectations, especially learning about culture history, celebrations, and daily life and sharing some of those. Fika is a keeper! Loved HCA link in Copenhagen. Markets in Stockholm and Bergen particularly memorable. Absorbing the history was key part of enjoyment. Would be thrilled to go on more Sweden and Norway tours especially, plus more time on Aero where B&B hosts were standouts. THANKS GUNNER!!

Also, the mountains and fjords of Norway took my breath away!."

I was profoundly impressed at how much better most things are currently being done in Scandinavia than in North America in general. The list of things is virtually endless. As an example, the system of roads, bridges and tunnels we traveled on in Norway was outstanding. Our guide Laurel was a real pleasure to talk to and interact with. This was my 12th tour so I may not have been as wowed as some. Pretty fair tour and as usual the group was great. This may have been the best group I have been with. No bad apples at all. Rick Steves has been our been our tour guide since the mid 1980's, albeit through his book "Europe through the Back Door". However, this tour was our first tour of any kind (city tours aside). We would do it again in a heartbeat. Traveling with friends years ago gave us total freedom to choose what to do, where to stay, where to eat and how to get there. Enjoyed the tour but less than previous ones as it all felt "touristy". Made a poor choice in Copenhagen to go to Christiana. I was disappointed in the experience as it was not the interesting counter culture, artsy community expected. This was a great tour that included the history, culture, politics, and natural history of Scandinavia. Excellent guides, lodging (location and facilities), food, and transport (bus, and ferries). A very good mix of organized tours/learning, and private time to get away and get a good feel for Scandinavia.

Had a fabulous time! Asa was a great tour guide and went out of her way to make our time in Scandinavia an experience to remember. It was especially enlightening to have a guide who grew up in Sweden to be able to explain the society, politics, etc and to also then compare and contrast with Denmark and Norway. Loved the food, Loved the experience and had a great group. This was my 6th Rick Steves tour and overall a great experience!

This was my husband's and my first European Tour after several trips "going it on our own" using the Rick Steves books to help us along. I was not sure what to expect. Overall the experience was amazing. While I was not able to always keep up with the activities (due to unexpected shin splints) and therefore sat out some of the events, it was comforting to me to know that while I entertained myself in a park or small café, my husband was not held back.

Asa, our tour guide, the bus driver, and local guides, were 1st class professionals, making the Scandinavian experience fun, informative, and generaly awsome. This tour was an excellent opportunity to learn about three distinct Scandinavian cultures. It's a busy tour, but includes a wide variety of venues - city, mountains, sea, farm, cruise - so the traveler can experience many aspects of the countries through which we travel. The food was fabulous, and the scenery breathtaking. More time in Copenhagen instead of the side trip to Aero. The Little Mermaid could be optional. Start in Bergen, end in Stockholm.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"1. Sweden: learning about the city parliament process. So different than the government system in the US, and it gave me a lot to think about. 2. Denmark: Copenhagen - beautifu, interesting city. Worth more time than it's allotted. 3. Norway: the bus ride through the Jotunheimen mountains."

Tour was our first RS and was exceptional. Ylva was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, professional as was our driver Johanas. We saw and learned lots more than we could ever have managed on our own. We particularly enjoyed participating in the evolving camaraderie of our group.

Really didn't know what to expect prior to going but was really amazed by each new day's sights, sounds, people, food, tour buddies, and Pal's lessons and personal stories not only of Scandinavia but of his travels. Being Scandinavian, it has always been a dream of mine to visit. Knowing our limited skills in planning, we decided to take another RS trip. My expectations were exceeded in every way possible. The beauty of the countries is of course incredible, but we would have missed so much if we had tried to do it on our own. Our guide Pål, was knowledgeable, energetic, fun, and creative. Our first guided tour. Didn't know what to expect. Our guide, Gabriella was outstanding. Our driver Pena was also beyond any expectations. We assumed that "afternoon free" meant we would have the entire afternoon, not just a couple of hours. It was demanding with covering 3 countries, 36 hours in the bus, over 1000 miles of travel (not including the overnight ferry), and 8 hotels. This was our 5th Rick Steves tour and, in my opinion, our best. Our guide, Pål, was as good as any we have had and was a lot of fun. He had a good grasp of the history, the area and made the tour go very smoothly. Our local guide in Stockholm was also outstanding and even brought us into his apartment so we could see how a city dwelling Swede lives. Although the tour was active it was not exhausting and we didn't feel worn out at the end. Thanks, Pål and Rick Steves Tours!

This was our 4th Rick Steves tour and, as with the others, "travelling as a temporary local" provides the best possible cultural immersion to help understand other cultures and peoples. Of particular interest were the social programs ("All residents are part of our family and you take care of family members." - our local Swedish guide), environmental and historical stewardship and a cashless society. Pal is an exceptional guide and our group was both interested and interesting.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"The salvaged Viking ships in Norway and Denmark, as well as the largely intact Vasa in Sweden were fascinating. The stave churches in Norway are amazing, predating most cathedrals. Our photos of the scenery (particularly in Norway) will serve to remind us (but can't really capture) the grandeur, which must be seen in person."

There were so many interesting places we visited,it is difficult to identify which we enjoyed the most. That to me is a sign of a great holiday. Our tour guide was excellent, humerous and loaded with knowledge of each of the countries. When we have time to review the over 2,000 photos we took, some highlights will emerge.

"We've come home seeing that those three beautiful countries (Sweden, Denmark, and Norway) have done much we in the U.S. can only hope to emulate, particularly in how they care for every citizen, how they steward the environment, and in how they get their systems and their infrastructure to work well. This was our fourth RS tour, and we really enjoyed it. We like that we hit the major cities in Scandinavia, but also went to a few sites that we'd never have found on our own. We especially liked Aero Island in Denmark. The place was charming, and the folks who talked about building up the town to become viable again, were very interesting speakers. As usual, a fine mix of hitting the highlights and leaving us enough time to do what we want that wasn't covered by the tour.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"We really enjoyed the overnight cruise from Denmark to Norway. I wouldn't exactly call the ship a "ferry"; it was more of a small cruise ship, with very nice bars and restaurants. We enjoyed our hike with Ylva up to the waterfall in Boverdal, although I thought the climb would kill me! That hotel was charming, as was the scenery."

"My "wow" moment was being in the the mountains/fjords of Norway! And with that being said, I would suggest that the tour spend one more night in the mountains and one less night in Bergen. This is the 7th Rick Steves tour I have taken. Unlike the other six, this group never seemed to totally click. Everyone was always quiet on the bus and couples generally kept to themselves. Although Ylva was a great guide, she was generally around only for group activities. If she had been more visible at other times and engaged people more, the group might have "gelled" better and more quickly. If this had been my first tour, I am not sure I would have signed up for other tours.

I was very impressed with the quality of the tour. I learned a lot from our outstanding guide, Asa, as well as from the local guides. This was my first tour; I have traveled independently to Europe frequently, so this trip was a lot different. I feel that the tour maximized my time by freeing me up from having to do a lot of logistics. Scandinavia seemed quite complicated logistically so it was nice to have the tour take care of that for me.

The Scandinavian Tour was our best Tour yet. I wish I could point out one or two defining moments but it was an overall feeling that we got that made it so. Our tour guide, Asa, was so knowledgeable, was so nice and seemed to read our minds when we needed a snack or a stop. How does she do that? Around every corner she seemed to have a surprise or and place to show us and kept us guessing what she would come up with next. This is just on the bus portions of the trip!

Favorite "WOW" moment

"Again, it was hard to pick one moment but I'd go with the Vigeland Park in Oslo. That was so much more than I was expecting. Great place. Asa was able to explain what the statues may have been representing and really added to the park visit. What a difference having someone who knows her stuff discuss the statuary art."

Both my wife and I enjoyed the tour. It gave us a flavor of the region, lots of history, and a sampling of the culture. We learned a lot about the kings, queens, warriors, and the land changes over the centuries.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"It's a tie but, I must say the most impressive thing was Oslo's harbor front, especially the Opera House. I have always enjoyed architecture and that structure was amazing, allowing visitors to walk on the 'roof' of the building. Unfortunately, we did not have time to take a tour of the interior of the building. That is one regret that my wife and I had. We wanted to see the inside but there was too much to see. The other was the Viking Ship and the Fram Museums. Both were very impressive."

Only 500? No way but here goes. Inching toward 80, and with aches and creaks, I wandered along with Åsa and group joyously taking in the wonders of Sweden (Gamlastan, Royal Opera tour and four hands piano concert there, meeting my same-named fb friend of 9 years), Denmark (Ærö Island, my lodging at Susannah's and Rick's map room where I left my door ajar for lookieloos, Nyhavn, Copenhagen), Norway (stave churches, Lillehammer, outdoor folk museum, Bergen (home of my paternal grandma).

Favorite "WOW" moment

"Surprise....not Ærö Island (very close second), but the invitation to sing a hymn in Urnes stave church by the local guide, himself a singer in the choir there. Somehow it happened a chance few words passed between us that I, too, was a choir singer. After he sang acapella a hymn sacred to Unes and known only there, he led back to the organ which he opened up, found Amazing Grace in his hymnal, and away we went. Just W O W. No way to top that. My Scandinavian tour was a great experience. From the history of Sweden, Denmark and Norway, to the beauty of the Fjords and the mountains, this tour was tip top( no put intended). Good mix of cities and scenery. Each city had its own personality. However, we only passed through the Norway fjords rather than spending a night in them. The Elveseter Hotel is unique, but I would have preferred dusk and dawn on the shore of a fjord. All tour members were very friendly and courteous, focused on enjoying all that was offered by the guide and the surroundings. It was a very good group of people.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"The huge number of waterfalls in the fjord was amazing. Everywhere you looked there was a waterfall, and not just little spillways, but dozens and hundreds of feet tall waterfalls. I loved our tour. In so many ways, there were unexpected great surprises, both large and small. There were many wonderful group dinners, with food choices I might not otherwise try, so got to try many new tastes. The tour of Scandinavia was structured, but it also had plenty of time on our own, and we liked that. Additionally, our guide, Pål, was a wealth of information and entertainment. He did everything one could expect and more. His little "fika" surprises were a treat. He was an awesome tour leader.

"Obviously, the fjord cruise was awesome and many would consider this their wow moment. But oddly enough, the City Hall in Stockholm was most interesting to me. I really enjoyed seeing all of the design features that the architect incorporated into the building. You have to look for them, but they are there. Perhaps I liked it as much as I did because I would have designed the building in a similar fashion. Our local guide for the City Hall was excellent."

This tour initially was a "sleeper" regarding my priority list. I significantly underestimated not only the importance and contribution of the countries and culture to international harmony, but the lasting impression that has been established and shared by the people to take care of each other. The experience was grounded in relationships within the tour group and between the guides and the tour group and with every person we came in contact with in the various countries visited.

The tour, though good, did not live up to my expectations for a Rick Steves tour. There were several things that I found disappointing, but our guide, Pal, was not one of them. He was more than outstanding. Without him I would rate the tour as good at best, and possibly even adequate or poor. It was incredibly hot in both Sweden and Denmark, and I certainly don't blame the tour for that. But it did affect our experience.

Favorite "WOW" moment

"I had two. The visit to Frogner Park in Oslo with its Vigeland sculptures was stunning. I truly cannot remember a park anywhere else in the world that affected me as much. The second, was the boat ride on the fjord on our way to Bergen. I had always heard about the beauty of the fjords, but it really can't be comprehended until it is experienced. I should also say the visit to Aero was wonderful."

Pål was such a welcoming and knowledgeable young man. He kept us moving at a reasonable pace and shared insight all along the way. While on the tour bus Pål would give us a little more history about what we'd seen and on what we were about to see. He moved within the group as was very good at interacting with all

"Too many to mention. The Abby, castles, Vigeland park, the fjords. Stockholm, Copenhagen, Aero, Oslo, Bergen. But have to mention Pål's ability to bring a very diverse group of people together in such a short time in which we looked after and took care of each other on this tour."

This was our first organized land and Rick Steves tour. We normally travel independently but after evaluating different travels options we felt this was our best value to get a great overview of Sxcandanavia. We were not disappointed. The tour was well organized, and it was nice to not have to spend hours deciding where to go, searching for hotels/guides/travel options etc. Our tour guide, Ylva, was fabulous and our travel companions were a lot of fun to be around. Highly recommend!!

Skansen in Stockholm is the first outdoor museum in the world and maybe the best with wildlife, historic homes and a great acquarium. We did this on our own and this took most of a day). We did a lot walking and that was all OK. Standing for longer than 15 minutes could be uncomfortable. I have lived most of my life in rural area, and being in larger city and finding museums, etc with a map was a little intimidating. This was during our free time. But it also was a learning experience. I lost weight!!! I attribute this to the Asa Scandinavia walking program. Tour Hotels

In case you wish to book pre- or post-tour hotel accommodations, the contact information for the tour's first and last hotels is included in your tour confirmation email, as well as in your online customer account. About one month prior to the tour departure, in your customer account you'll find the directions to your first tour hotel and a complete list of hotels where we'll be staying while on tour.

Flights

Our tours don't include airfare, so your flight arrangements are completely up to you.

Most tour members arrange to fly into Stockholm and out of Bergen ("multicity" on flight-booking websites). Booking round-trip to one city will require a connecting flight, train trip, or additional overnight stay in Scandinavia.

We suggest arriving a day or two before your tour begins to allow ample time to get over jet lag and be well-rested for the first few days of your tour. For more information about transportation options for getting to and from your tour, see your Rick Steves Scandinavia guidebook.
