Program 804: Favorite Hot Springs in Europe; Walk Around the World

A photojournalist lets us in on her favorite European hot springs to visit, from Iceland to Turkey and points in between. And a man who spent seven years traversing the globe on foot — with his faithful pup alongside him — describes how his adventure helped him learn to embrace the now.

• Greta Rybus is a freelance photojournalist, specializing in editorial portraiture, travel, and documentary photography, and the author of "Hot Springs: Photos and Stories of How the World Soaks, Swims, and Slows Down." She also posts her photos on Instagram.
• Greta spoke with Rick on Travel with Rick Steves program #765 in August 2024 about her favorite hot springs around the world.
• Greta has also co-produced a series of one-hour ambient soundscapes called "World Piece."
• Tom Turcich writes about his adventure as one of the few people to circumnavigate the world on foot in his book "The World Walk." He posts videos from his five-year walk on YouTube.
• Tom explores his journey from the perspective of his dog in a children's book he's written, called "Savannah's World of Adventure: Crossing the Andes."
• Wikipedia lists the 17 known "pedestrian circumnavigators" from 1898 to today. To qualify, a person must walk or run around the world and return to their starting point by their own power. However, those who were independently verified for walking around the earth only date back to 1974.
