Program 607a: Bridges and Little Museums of Paris; Burgundy

Release Date: 03-25-2023

On-Air Description

On the next Travel with Rick Steves, we'll look at the beautiful bridges that set the stage for a romantic walk along the riverfront in Paris.

We'll see what's in some of the city's many small specialty museums and galleries, where one thing they don't share with Paris' big famous museums is a crowd.

And for the pleasure of slowing down to savor the moment, we'll explore the region of Burgundy, a couple hours south of the capital.

Callers

  • "I have an appreciation for all the smaller museums of Paris and I own a copy of this book. My fave is the Museum of the '30s — fabulous collection and really off the beaten path. I also want to recommend one I didn't seem to find in the book: the Albert Kahn Museum and Gardens — quite a unique collection in the history of photography and especially color photography, with a fine garden." (Carolyn in San Diego)
  • "My wife and I are visiting Paris with our six-year-old son in tow. In consideration of our son, we have decided to do the sacrilegious and skip the Louvre. What are some smaller museums that a little person might enjoy on our trip?"  (Wes in Covington, Kentucky)
  • Caller just returned from Paris and spent an afternoon in nearby Poissy to visit the Villa Savoye by Le Corbusier. "For anyone with an interest in modern architecture, it is a must see and it's a very easy (and quick) journey out from the city." (Joshua in Evanston, Illinois)
  • "I am planning an ambitious trip with four nights in the south of France (Provence / French Riviera) and six nights in the north of France (Paris / Normandy). I want to spend my "extra" night in rural French wine country between the two major spots to break up my trip. Considering distances, where should I go (Burgundy or the Loire), what should I do, and how should I get around?" (Daniel in Washington, DC)
  • "I want to do a wine tour at a few local vineyards around Beaune while solo canal boating from Grey to Branges. Any recommendations?" (William in Little Falls, New Jersey)
